Name of varietal: Malbec

Common synonyms: Côt, Auxerrois, Pressac, Vesparo, Malbeck
Parentage of the grape: indigenous to France
History of the grape: Some believe Malbec is named after a Hungarian peasant who spread plantings along the French countryside (Janos Malbec-seed, perhaps?). • Gascon Malbec 2007

This wine is fantastic. It's really vibrant and goes fantastic with a meal. For the price, it's amazing. There is no feeling of a headache after drinking this wine like some other cheap wines. It's a no frills bottle that we will be using a lot more now in our household. I'm normally leery about buying wines this cheap, but I'm glad I did!(I got... Read More

Personally I love it. As a beginner, I find it to be a great beginner's wine ;) Fruity, with strong hints of tobacco, which make it taste so great, to my surprise. Delicate, but solid. A great choice in price/value, at least where I live. Read More

  • Clos la Coutale Malbec Cahors France Red Dry 2006

I like this Malbec at this price point. Blended with 20% Merlot. It's nice when you want something more old world style, and not a fruit bomb from Mendoza. :) Read More
