Famatina Valley Wine

The Famatina Valley is located in Chilecito, province of La Rioja - ARGENTINA. It´s an 80km long desert valley with mountain ranges on each side: the Velasco and the Famatina. A pristine and sparsely populated environment with a unique micro-climate. Great exposure to sunshine and dry with warm days and very cool nights. Abundance of water deep below the surface ensures that water is available when needed. Ideally suited to producing both earlier ripening “vibrant” white varieties such as Torrontes as well as intensely labored reds, notably Bonarda and Malbec. Produces wines with great depth of flavor, with wonderful elegance and vibrant character.

A phenomenal wine. Rich yet soft, bright and crisp, yet supple. It is LOADED with lychee, which I really like and then has maybe a hint of tropical fruit in there too. If I had to point out to a fault, It may be fairly simple (The lychee) but on the whole it's one of my favorite whites. Especially for the price. Read More

  • Zolo Torrontés Famatina Valley 2008

This jury is hung after the first Torrontes tasting. Maybe because of my expectations, it fell considerably short. However, I will have to have another go at this wine because this wine's popularity runs decidedly against my first impression. Read More

  • Zolo Torrontés Famatina Valley 2006

Distinctly greenish hue. Delicate floral nose of musky orange blossom. Palate surprisingly full. Initially zesty citrus fruit then peach kicks in as it warms up. A slight kerosene touch to the long finish. Complex but a bit full for me. Read More
