Boutari

Boutari's Santorini winery opened in 1989 and has been named one of the most beautiful wineries in the world for the past several years. It's architecture is similar to that of the islands highly recognizable dome structure. Boutari has played a significant role in the resurgence and cultivation of the island's viticulture. The winery is located between Faros and Akrotiri, but the vineyards are located in various spots throughout the island. Santorini has a relatively small landscape and the majority of the island is dedicated to tourism - a constant fight for the wineries on the island. Boutari's estate is open for tours and tastings and has a small kitchen for light fare. A small movie theater is also located on the premises that showcases an educational video explaining the history of Santorini's wine culture. Throughout the year, the theater is also open for regular movie viewing - a major draw for many of the island's residents. The vineyard, planted in 1992, cover approximately 6 hectares of Read more »

  • Boutari Naoussa 2003

    Snoothrank:

Truffles with plums and figs on the nose. There's an undercurrent of meat. Tight attack, which broadens quickly to an earthy wine with strong tannins. Powerful yet supple with cherry flavors. Nice dense finish with a lot of licorice and anise flavors.2 years in barrel and 2 in bottle, this 03 is the current vintage! Read More

  • Boutari Xinomavro Naoussa Macedonia 2005

    Snoothrank:

This has some assertive perfumes that combine notes of dried cherries, smoky, earthy tones and the spicy scent of new oak. In the mouth this is quite a structured wine with firm, slightly drying tannins and bright acidity supporting earthy dark cherry fruits. It's a touch rustic in one way yet with noticeable oak seems modern as well. In any eve... Read More

  • Boutari Moschofilero White 2007

    Snoothrank:

This is by far the best white I have ever tasted. It is a balance between sweet and dry. Like in between Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Grigio/Gris. Forget pairing-this is a treat unto itself. Smooth, crisp, fruity- but not cheap. Read More
