Boutari

Boutari's Santorini winery opened in 1989 and has been named one of the most beautiful wineries in the world for the past several years. It's architecture is similar to that of the islands highly recognizable dome structure. Boutari has played a significant role in the resurgence and cultivation of the island's viticulture. The winery is located between Faros and Akrotiri, but the vineyards are located in various spots throughout the island. Santorini has a relatively small landscape and the majority of the island is dedicated to tourism - a constant fight for the wineries on the island. Boutari's estate is open for tours and tastings and has a small kitchen for light fare. A small movie theater is also located on the premises that showcases an educational video explaining the history of Santorini's wine culture. Throughout the year, the theater is also open for regular movie viewing - a major draw for many of the island's residents. This wine is very sweet. It is actually the sweetest red I have ever had. Raisin in very strong opening into dates. This would be excellent as a desert wine with dark chocolate. Read More

    Snoothrank:

This wine was recommended to me as a good sweet dessert wine so I only have me and my husbands opinion to give. It is very sweet and it packs a punch, there is a lot of alcohol in this wine. However, it is very prune flavored or perhaps raisin flavored with a smokiness. I am not a wine expert by any means its just my 2 cents. Read More
