Columbia County is within the Hudson River Valley in New York. While the Hudson River Valley is a historic wine-producing region, Columbia County is fairly new on the scene. Hudson-Chatham Winery is its first commercial vineyard, open since 2007. Since then, a handful of others are starting to crop up. The cool climate is well suited for North American/French hybrids such as Seyval Blanc and Baco Noir, as well as Gewürztraminer, Riesling, Chardonnay, and Pinot Noir. Wineries also offer fruit wines such as plum wine, liqueurs such as Cassis, and ciders.

  • Nocking Point Wicked Aim Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

Very pleasant, straightforward wine. Something of a tart currant flavor with a bit of a dark chocolate on the tip of the tongue. More of a puckery drying, mid-palate. Very short finish. Easy to drink, and, probably a reasonable buy. I was gifted this bottle, but it looks like the price is about $20. Read More

  • Spring Valley Vineyard Uriah 2008

Pretty interesting wine. Quite different from the California style for a Bordeaux blend. (Well, duh.) That might be from the lack of Cabernet Sauvignon. First of all, it is a very attractive bluish-purple in the glass. Big, fruity nose of blackberry and (I know there is no CS.) currant. On the tongue I get that initial blast of black fruit,... • Seven Hills Winery Mcclellan Estate Cabernet Sauvignon Walla Walla Valley 2012

The wine is a lovely deep violet in the glass with great clarity. The nose is quite nice, with aromas of leather over some ripe boysenberry and cherry notes and just a hint of dried herbs. The taste is just wonderful, with a rather subdued bit of fruit up front, berries and cherry that quickly gives way to some lovely mineral notes midpalate, ... Read More

  • Woodward Canyon Barbera Estate 2012

The wine is a deep inky purple in the glass with some brighter ruby along the edges. The nose is an adventure in decadent aromas, raspberry, blackberry and cassis along with a good bit of leather, graphite and forest floor. The taste is just a treat, with a blast of ripe fruit at the outset, ripe berries, plum and raisin that reminds you a bit... Read More

The wine is a deep ruby in the glass, with great color and legs. The nose is just terrific, with rich aromas of leather, ripe berries and mineral notes. The taste is lovely, with a blast of fresh fruit at the outset, strawberries, blackberries and cherries, which effortlessly transition to some notes of dusty limestone, cocoa powder and warm s... I only got on this website to say that I have recently purchased two bottles of Crystal Creek Riesling. While I am not an expert on wines' I greatly enjoy Riesling wines and I would like to say that Crystal Creek is the best I have tasted in many years. Keep up the good work. Read More

  • Cougar Crest Syrah Walla Walla Valley 2008

The wine is a deep inky purple color in the glass, with a bit of opacity. The nose is lovely, with aromas of ripe fruit, plum, blackberries and cherry, with some hints of vanilla, clove and autumn spice. The taste is just beautiful, with a blast of ripe fruit that easily transitions to some leather, green grass and white pepper notes midpalate... Read More
