The soils of Marsannay are unfortunately little known worldwide and the wines too often underestimated. Because the commune does not have the prestige of its famous neighbours in the south, the wines of Marsannay are often drunk too young. Our soils give rather tannic and well-structured red wines. Waiting for 3 to 8 years according to the vintage often proves essential to maximize the qualitative potential of the wine and your pleasure. – Description from aussiegreg

Marsannay on Snooth

  • Domaine du Vieux College Marsannay les Longeroies 2009

    Snoothrank:

A nice fruity nose at first, fresh and crisp with growing notes of forest floor and cactus leaf set against a backdrop of candied red cherry with a hint of beet root. Very smooth though with ample acidity highlighting the cranberry/raspberry nature of the fruit here. It's uncomplicated with faint background notes of spice and brush and super sof... Read More

  • Domaine Ballorin Marsannay les Echezots 2008

    Snoothrank:

This must be organic, very composty on the nose and natural smelling with really spicy tones but no obvious fruit. On the palate this exhibits fine grained tannins with an appealingly almost sweet peach tone quality to the fruit on the mid-palate that turns a bit nutty on the finish. Nicely balanced and already complex. 87pts Read More

  • Domaine Joseph Roty Marsannay les Ouzeloy 2006

    Snoothrank:

I like this low tannin Pinot Noir - the nose & the palate were full of jammy, red fruit, with a hint of wood...maybe pine. Paired with the following:1. White Bean puree nice balance between the two2. Smoked Salmon not a good combination. wine tasted bitter all the way to the aftertaste3. Szechuan Shrimp not a good match. sauce & shrimp brou... • 07 Louis Latour Marsannay -Rouge Ac Cl 2006

    Snoothrank:

A bit reticent with its slightly gamy toned warm dark fruit. This grows to reveal earth, mineral and minty, floral tones that frame the jammy bitter cherry fruit. A bit relaxed across the palate this has lovely bitter cherry/berry fruit in a medium full bodied package that is simple but supported by some nice, slightly chalky tannins. The fini... Read More
