Marietta Cellars is located just outside the little town of Geyserville in one of California’s premier wine growing regions, Sonoma County. Owner and winemaker Chris Bilbro initially founded Marietta Cellars in 1978 in a rented cow barn in the Dry Creek Valley. The wines of Marietta Cellars are a personification of Chris Bilbro, his outlook on life, and general lifestyle. No wine is complete on its own; pleasurable pursuits such as cooking, fishing, hunting, gardening, and entertaining add balance to wine, as they do to life. To this day, no wine gets bottled without Chris’s approval and no vineyard row goes more than a week without Chris riding his ATV through it.

This could have been a very good wine with just a little more effort. There was a good core of bramble fruits, hint of raisin and some spices. But woefully lacking in structure. No discernible tannins or oak. I couldn't even tell it had alcohol in it. Yeah, it tasted good, but was not an overall enjoyable "wine experience". Read More

  • Marietta Cellars Petite Sirah California 2007

It's a big wine alright. But too big for my taste. I had this with a good steak and it over-powered it. It reminds me of Ben Hogan. Big, strong, intimidating but he's also highly immobile, slow, and full of steroids. Read More

  • Marietta Cellars Zinfandel Sonoma County 2009

Little hot on the nose at first but only takes a few minutes to mellow down. Nice pepper and black fruit on the nose. Very spicy on the palate and quite jammy. I got a big dose of black licorice on the first few tastes but I didn't detect that so much after a bit. Pretty earthy on the finish but not too much. Nice tannins too. It just so h... Read More

For the price, there is no comparison that I've yet come across. This is my house wine. In a blind taste test, against 3 other red blends costing $50-$80, 5 of 6 reviewers rated this #1, and was #2 for the 6th reviewer, Read More
