Langmeil Winery

Family owned and operated, Langmeil is the home of the Barossa and Australia’s oldest known surviving vineyard planted to Shiraz in 1843, from where the iconic Freedom 1843 Shiraz hails. Since 1996 when the Bitter and Lindner families re-established the abandoned winery, Langmeil has had considerable success and has been awarded 5 stars in the Halliday Wine Companion six years in succession, placing it in the top 5% of premium Australian producers. Without contradiction, Langmeil wines are ‘cutting edge old school’ quality Barossa wine.

  • Langmeil Barossa Valley Floor Shiraz 2008

Crimson in colour the nose displays dark cherry, pepper and spice with a hint of vanilla. The palate shows juicy cherry and confectionary characteristics with pepper, and briary spice and an influence of toasted oak. Overall the sweetness on the front palate is balanced with some savoury elements from the oak with an almost bitter chocolate ling... Read More

  •  Since my queries of this nature are usually tagged to the end of other threads of (somehwat) related nature, I figured I'd start one of dedicated nature. • Langmeil Barossa Orphan Bank Shiraz 2008

Woodsy and herbal on the nose with light spice notes accenting black raspberry fruit. This smells faintly oily of resinny wood as well, with some violet notes framing the fruit and an interesting candied, apricot edge. Nice and bright in the mouth with modest but sufficient tannins framing out the unusually red fruited mid-palate. There are some... Read More

  • Langmeil Barossa Valley Floor Shiraz 2008

Aromatically this is quite tight at first, really restrained with soft herbal tones accented by bright cracked pepper notes. On entry this shows a touch of sweetness that is quickly swept away by the layered, rich, yet elegant mid-palate with its deep, dark fruits. Superbly polished and rather agile for a wine of this mass. The flavors show a to... Read More
