La Terre are inexpensive wines produced in California that have developed a following through sale in restaurants. The name translates to “the earth,” although these wines are known for their fruity styles of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and White Zinfandel. This is a private label brand with no other known winery information other than it is owned by a Vietnamese wholesaler.

  • With harvest truly getting underway in northern California, up to now it's mostly been early whites and grapes for roses and sparkling wines, masses of enotourists are descending on the northern counties to enjoy them in their glory. While many of us think of wine country as a tourist destination, the truth of the matter is that it is an agricul... Read More

  • Easton Zinfandel Amador County 2011

    Snoothrank:

A well balanced wine. Has a big nose of blackberry and sweet candy, and hints of spice. More spicy ripe fruit on the palate, dominantly tastes of blackberry but also has notes of dried fruit/rasins/fig - all well balanced by acid. Definitely has distinct vanilla notes; presumably from the oak. Good acid and some ripe tannin. Read More

  • It's relatively easy to find superior, satisfying wine if you’re free to pay top dollar. But for most of us that's usually not the case. Instead, we have to find alternative ways to consistently fill our glasses with wine that pleases—without taking a beating financially. But then one of the most satisfying aspects of the wine hobby can be findi... Read More

  • Easton Zinfandel California Shenandoah Valley Estate Bottled 2010

    Snoothrank:

Wooly and a bit wild on the nose with bright aromas of blueberry and blackberry fruit. Bright and juicy in the mouth with a super smooth, refined mouthfeel that sees polished tannins floating under great wild blackberry and boysenberry fruit. The acidity here is juicy and lends an almost lime fruit quality to the palate. 91 points Read More

  • Easton Zinfandel Amador County 2011

    Snoothrank:

Nice and precise on the nose, with slightly herbal, chaparral brush and edgy, wild berry fruit aromas. In the mouth there are lovely herbal shadings to the core of dark cherry fruit. This is smooth and supple, with nice soft tannins and integrated acidity, and while it does turn just a little jammy on the finish, its a very happy wine. 90 points Read More

  • Domaine de la Janasse Vin de Pays de la Principauté d'Orange Terre de Bussière 2009

    Snoothrank:

An extremely pleasant surprise from a mixed case purchased from Wine Library - I think this bottle was about $12. Rich, fruity and smooth red - dangerously easy to drink. Plush mouthfeel, nice acidity (paired well with a steak and some dark chocolate), not too tannic. Tasted more like an Aussie shiraz than a French blend, but I'm not complain... Read More
