http://www.cosvittoria.it COS, Yesterday, today. They began to produce for pleasure, ended to create a company: one of the most characterized of the Sicily. They were schoolfriends, Giambattista Cilia called Titta, Giusto Occhipinti and Pinuccia Strano, three guys of Vittoria (RG). Afterwards Titta and Giusto became architects, while Giuseppina Strano chose to be a social worker. In 1980, the passion for the vineyards, carried them to found a farm called COS (the initials of their surnames). They rented the parents's lands and began to play. Harvesting, pressing grapes (by foot), making wine, they produced 20 hectoliters of wine, which although was an amateur product, it was of great quality. Charmed for the enterprise, they have invested a lot in the wine cellar, equipping it of modern technologies: today their wines ferment with controlled temperature and age in barrique. Among the three protagonists who gave life to the adventure, today, two architects, Giusto and Giambattista, carry the plan ahead and after 23 years they have placed an other important dowel: the resctructure of a majestic residence, become the country house center of COS.

  • Chateau Cos Labory Saint Estephe Chateau Cos Labory Saint Estephe Cabernet Sauvignon 1995

    Snoothrank:

Cracked this 1995 open in Oct of 2012 (as the SF Giant up 2-0 against Detroit Tigers in the World Series). Probably a little past it's prime. Still had a decent color - not burnt around the edges and a decent nose. Very light and bright. Not a lot of fruit, but not overly dusty. Decent drinker, but not special. Read More

  • As a Californian, I have felt the loss of such old names as Almaden, Christian Brothers and Inglenook.  (OK, I guess Almaden still exists as a mocking shell of its former being.  OK, I know it never was great, but their bottles did have corks.  Maybe I am the only person who feels a sense of loss of Almaden.)  Another of the old abused names is ... • Château Cos Labory Red Bordeaux Blend St. Estèphe 2000

    Snoothrank:

Some riper fruit notes remain, but it's more filled with darker, dried red and black fruits, sassafras, cola, and musty, earthy notes of soil and some funk. It's got good acid/tannin balance still and is nicely layered and went nicely with food. Drink soon.88 pts.7/5/12 Read More

  • There is virtually zero reason to buy Bordeaux 2011 en primeur, but there was ... conditions. I did not taste Cos d’Estournel, but plan to visit and taste later this year, so stay tuned for updates.  Chateau Calon Segur is a wine to purchase in 2011. 13.3% alcohol, with fine acidity, the wine is made with 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot and...
