  • DMCKER  to answer your question about not to buy again. It did not taste like a Chianti to me,had little or no acidity the Cab was the predominant flavor, it didn't make it a bad bottle it just was not what I expected.  Read More

  • Not sure about the relationship between 'it was a nice bottle' and ... ... for a wine to qualify for Chianti Classico status. Lots of pissing and moaning about how they had to go Super Tuscan in that era if they wanted to release a 100% sangiovese wine. Would seem that allowing 100% only later became possible. Also, of course, heard that some ... Read More

  • Have a condrum bought a bottle Canonica A Cerreto Chianti Classico Riserva 2011 DOCG last week from the Costco grand opening, have not seen this wine at any other store in Dallas. • Sometimes we get used to paying upwards of $100 for a nice bottle of wine from the wine shop.  Those are the 'good days' that we want to remember, but soon you notice your bank account is dropping faster than Trumps approval rating, so you start looking for more value-oriented wines that are tasty in their own right. This topic is all about value... If you like it then it's good. Blending is part of the winemaker's art.JD (and RCKR), happy anniversar Read More

  • Santa Margherita Chianti Classico 2013

    Snoothrank:

The color is a deep ruby red. The initial fruit forward aromas are plenty sweet. Notes such as cherry, strawberry, plum, a touch of violet, vanilla, cocoa, Sangiovese spiciness and earthy flint. Soft and smooth on the palate. The tannins are round, with a dry, warm, earthy/powdery finish. The finish is a soft, sweet cocoa finish. It's a very foo... Read More

  • Jack's post intrigued me.  I'd always thought that Chiantis/Chianti Classicos were 100% Sangiovese. Not true.According to this Wikipedia entry, since 1996, wines from this region must be 75% to 100% Sangiovese.  Blending is OK, and Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot are not uncommon.I guess that any wine from this region that has less than 75% Sangiov...
