Sauvignon Blanc

(aka. Blanc Fume, Fume Blanc, Savagnin Musque)

Sauvignon Blanc is widely grown in California -- at over 15,000 acres, it’s now the third most planted variety -- and often assumes the moniker ‘Fume Blanc’. This popular synonym, credited to Napa’s Robert Mondavi, derives from the grape’s historic home of Pouilly in France’s Upper Loire Valley, where Sauvignon Blanc is the dominant varietal and goes locally by the name of ‘Blanc Fumé’. When treated with respect and afforded suitable growing conditions, it is one of the wine world’s darlings. Dry wines made from this grape are characterized by steely, racy acidity, green, gooseberry fruit, asparagus and a grassy, herbaceous character. It is rarely oaked, except in California, where it has often been subjected to Read more »

Sauvignon Blanc on Snooth

  • Vacheron Sancerre 2013

    Snoothrank:

Extremely nice Sancerre (sauv blanc). Very well balanced with not too tart lemon and a hint of almond on the nose. There's some restrained grapefruit and lemon peel on the front end, and a little dose of salinity on the medium finish. Read More

  • Hogue Sauvignon Blanc 2013

    Snoothrank:

For under $10 this is a perfectly acceptable mid-week refresher. Not overly grapefruity but more on the lemon, lemon drop side of sauv blanc. Simple but refreshing with a short finish but decent enough acidity without any funky after taste. Read More

  • Hill Family Sauvignon Blanc Napa Valley 2012

    Snoothrank:

The Hill Family Sauvignon Blanc 2013 is 99% Sauvignon Blanc & 1% Semillon. It is almost clear in color with a slight tinge of moss green. There is sweet sharpness on the nose with hints of nectarine and peach. The first sip is incredibly full-bodied and sharp with fruits of melon, cantaloupe and nectarine. I immediately liked it as it dances... Read More

Pale gold in color, the aroma is thick and heady at first but that quickly goes away and in comes aromas of honeydew melon, apricot and lemon. On the palate it tickles the tongue a little with zesty citrus fruits of lemon, grap... Read More

  • William Hill Sauvignon Blanc 2012

    Snoothrank:

A newcomer from Gallo Wines, the William Hill Estates Sauvignon Blanc has a calming light Sea foam green hue. There are instant and startling aromas of citrus fruits and apricot on the nose.
