  • I am drinking a 2013 Porca de Murca, Douro Reserva from Portugal. The wine seems to be fine, clear sight, clean fruity nose, in the beginning its fine on the palate (maybe a lack of fruit compared to the nose)... everything but the finish. It has a weird bitter finish, very unpleasant. Its not the tart taste of tannins (even so it is pretty high... Read More

  • Someone has to prop up this thread while RBA is traveling.I'm continuing the Merlot research, and this is a worthy low-dollar example.  Lots of berry on entry--blueberry, cassis.  Fairly light-bodied, for a red wine.  Some herbaceousness--but light-years away from the "bad old days."  I pretty simple wine that will be fine with the sandwich made... • As per your OP's title, JD, next a look at CA. From the Wine Institute:"Chardonnay, with 95,000 acres, is the wine type variety with the most acreage planted in California."Cabernet Sauvignon was the second most planted winegrape in California with 76,800 total acres."The red wine category for the second year in recent history edged out white wi... • Trying to recall a conversation we had a little while ago on this subject.Whats the most widely planted (acreage) and produced (bottles) red grape in CA, U.S., and worldwide?I seem to recall a Snooth article mentioning Grenache as the most widely planted red grape worldwide, but that was some years ago. I'm assuming it's Chardonnay for white? Read More

  • When I see those drinking windows on CT that say, 2016-2022, I think of the harvest date as the beginning of that year.  So a S. Hemi wine that says 2016 is the beginning of the window means March or so, and a N. Hemi wine means fall of 2016.  I would also date the wine from the day of harvest--before that, what grapes will go into the wine (if ... Read More

  • Okay, going back a few pages, I mentioned I ordered those Sbragia Zins frm inVino, $20 per and free shipping.  They arrived about a week ago, and we popped our first last night.  I made steak, roasted fingerlings (look elsewhere and you'll find my "recipe" for cooking them on the grill, but the oven works fine, too) and green beans.  I would nor... • Well the Wine fridge has officially bit the dust after just 2 years in service.  It stopped cooling about this time last year so I called Wine Enthusiast and a repairman was here 2 days later. He added some refrigerant and some stop leak and everything was fine 'til just before Christmas when it stopped cooling again. Called WE again and they sa... Read More

  • The circumstances surrounding the Chenin are that Dava loved it too. There's one pour left in the bottle. Other than than it is made by Tegan Passalacqua of Turley and lover of all things organic and farming. This little side project of his could sell 4 times its current volume due to the quality of the finished product but he keeps production l... Read More
