I plan on participating in the Lodi Virtual Tasting this week. So, I figured that a good place to find the wines that are in the VT would be Total Wines. In fact, I did reasonably well and found 3 of the 4. (Here's a PSA for VT participants. No driving after this tasting. The low ABV that I bought was 14.5. The other two were over 15.)Well,... Rich, full and ripe. Shows all of the classic California chardonnay attributes - pear, apple, citrus, toffee and caramel notes finishing fresh and crisp. The addition of 5% Viognier and 5% Marsanne has given this wine an added complexity and lift that it lacked in previous vintages. Very cool!93pts. Read More

An interesting article --http://www.nytimes.com/2013/05/01/dining/kevin-pogue-seeks-washington-states-top-terroir.htmlI've yet to try any wines from Walla Walla -- simply not available here -- but keep reading about them. It's on my to-do list for if I ever visit the US. But it's particularly interesting to see they're taking terroir more seriou... Read More

A 2011 Chardonnay from Sonoma County, California. Light yellow straw in color. Fruit hints of peach and apple with a hint of minerality. A mid-finish on the palette and crisp acidity. The time for this wine is now until 2018. Best served chilled to 52 degrees, and served with grilled chicken or a fruit & cheese plate. Read More

Carnivores and grillers, a few reasons to love Syrah: it’s a fantastic wine for pairing with any roasted meats, especially red meats like beef and lamb, as well as wild game. It is often peppery and sometimes smoky, with a roasted fruit and/or roasted meat flavor profile that makes it a fine accompaniment to anything barbecued or grilled (even, ... Read More

I actually like this wine a lot. I normally go for the bold California reds and picked up this Chardonnay on a whim. I could not not believe how buttery smooth it was on the tongue. I taste hints of peach, melon, apple and something very unique to me that is "creme soda". This is a perfect wine for sipping outside on a warm summer day, or even wh... Read More

Not a "blow you into the weeds powerhouse" California Cab. Also, this wine does not blow me over with tannin like other examples from Spring Mountain. This is a civilized wine that shows some berry/cassis/plum fruit, but not enough to be distractive. Seems closer to French style than California. US$29.68 at Total Wines. Read More

Hey all, I'm really just getting started with wine but i've been drinking/tasting seriously for about a year now. I will be graduating in a couple of weeks and I figure it is a good opportunity to buy my first batch expensive bottles since normally i dont exceed $25 in my tasting.Since it is my graduation, excessive drinking is likely to take p...
