  • Don't know D. They bought the property in the 1970s when land in the south of France and the Rhone, both north and south, was really cheap, and they've kept buying property. They got hooked up with Eric Solomon and he hooked them up with Parker and they became a favored estate of his - he said it's one of his favorite estates in CdP.Somehow they... Read More

  • We tried six wines at a free Whole Foods wine tasting event last night, and three were quite tasty so we bought one of each.  The tasting started with an El Perro Verde Rueda, which has Verdejo grapes from the Rueda plateau in north-central Spain.  I sensed grapefruit and other citrus flavors with this one and it's one of the three we selected. ... • Thanks, Ogre, for that listing. Pyramid Valley pinots were what first put Central Otago on the map for me. Shocked me full awake, first tasting. Cloudy Bay SBs, on the other hand, make me gag. I remember back in about 1992 I thought they were the cat's meow for something out of a heretofore unknown, nascent wine region. But they just kept gettin... Read More

  • I love N. Rhone Syrah.  It's my favorite red wine in France.  But the acreage of the region is so small and the area that provide its best wines even smaller, that prices have hit the roof.  Sure, there are a few St. Josephs and Crozes-Hermitages that come in around $25, but those are either made for earlier drinking and a lot less thrilling wit... • The Argentinian Patagonia, comprising the provinces of Neuquen, Rio Negro, Chubut, Santa Cruz and Tierra del Fuego, is a land of stark contrasts. Both soils and climates. From the arid desert of Northern Patagonia, by the central steppe, the Andes Mountains, to the hot and humid southern climate. While Argentina is renowned worldwide for wines o... Read More

  • Trump Winery Chardonnay 2008

Very bright, citrusy, refreshing. Not overly simplistic, but lacks the yeasty depth I prefer in sparklings. Read More

  • NG, I get that a lot form a lot but not all Central coast sites. Big fruit. Which in a Syrah is not necessarily a bad thing but you must balance it out if you want it to last more than the 6 years this one did. Too bad I drank it at 8 years. Yes, OT- I totally agree about central coast fruit in general, especially the SLH area.  I used to avoid ... Read More

  • Emark, I went up to Siduri's tasting room and tried a half dozen wines made from vineyards I have enjoyed for years and I honestly didn't want a single one of them in my cellar at any price.  Just not my style at all, and I am wondering why super-snooty Raj Parr would think they were so good that he was "fooled" into liking one that was higher t... • Stone Mountain Vineyards Petit Verdot Monticello 2007

This is classic Petit Verdot from the inky color to the spicy nose. Goes out with a bang thanks to the one-two punch of powerful tannins and strong balancing acidity. Read More
