  • Schug Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir 2015

Clean, light nose of floral cherry fruit and light red currant aromas. Approachable and pleasing on the palate, this is tart, fresh and juicy, showing good cherry and mixed berry fruit with even a touch of watermelon tucked in alongside a light smoke and herbal spice towards the finish. • Smith Madrone Cabernet Sauvignon 2005

A nose of forest floorstrong suggestion of olive. On the tongue a nice, subtle introduction of cassis. As the wine moves back I have to notice the very subdued tannin. My experience with Spring Mountain cabs is that they are tannic monsters. Some earthiness. While this is a firm, full-bodied wine, it is not causing my mouth and tongue to pu... Read More

  • Limerick Lane 1910 Block Zinfandel 2012

Noticeable alcohol on the nose, and its been open for about 20 minutes. Tip-of-the-tongue fruit is quite sedate. There is blackberry and, maybe, dried fruitraisins, prunesbut the fruitiness in nice, not obnoxious. A nice, robust, full-bodied Zinfandel. Stout, but, again, not obnoxious tannin. Could, probably, be an excellent candidate for ... Read More

  • Davis Bynum Pinot Noir Jane's Vineyard 2014

Fresh candied cherry and strawberry aromas with sweet baking spice and violet petals on the nose. A bit spicy on entry, this is cool and soft on the palate showing more cherry and strawberry fruit and adding some cranberry, a bit medicinal through the mid palate and nicely earthy and streaked with a hint of tarry minerality towards the finish. • Rockpile Winery Syrah Madrone Spring Vineyard 2011

Nice, medium-strength, highly drinkable wine. Blackberry and plum flavors on entry. Something of a dusty sensation, but nothing annoying. I guess I could describe it as earthiness, but that isnt quite it. In fact, it prevents the fruit from tasting syrupy. Nice acid tartness. Quite sedate tannin. No harm in holding this one, but I am happ... Read More

  • Matanzas Creek Winery Merlot 2013

Dusty chocolate cherry aromas with light raspberry notes and a bit of spice and heat. Smooth and velvety texture on entry, this displays firm tannins towards the mid palate with a fresh mix of red berry and cherry fruit, herbal notes of earth, and a finish that's kissed with oak and zesty oak spice. • Mending Wall Mortar & Stone Napa Valley 2014

Very dark purple color. Lots of dark fruit on entryblueberry, blackberry, black plum. Some acidic spritziness on the tip and edges of the tongue. Fairly stiff, though, hardly unexpected, tannin. Im a tad surprised at the power of this wine. It is a beastand it is a baby. The rest of my stash will sit in my cellar for years. Read More
