Saumur is a region in the Loire Valley. It is best known for its traditional-method sparkling wines made from Chenin Blanc, but also contains the very good red wine-producing region of Saumur Champigny, where the variety cultivated is Cabernet Franc.

  • Langlois-Château Crémant de Loire 1912

    Snoothrank:

The Loire has many really good sparkling wines to offer - the quality ones always go under the "cremant" description. Langlois is owned by champagne house Bollinger and has the know-how and terroir to make one of the best sparkling wines I know under 20 bucks. Creamy, yeasty with ripe apple aromas. It's not champagne, but it's pretty darn lovely. Read More

  • Château de la Roulerie Rosé d'Anjou 2011

    Snoothrank:

New to the rose game. This one was a little to sweet for me. Maybe I had my mind set that it was going to be to sweet. Good flavor profile of strawberry and cherry and very refreshing. Read More

  • Château de la Roulerie Rosé d'Anjou 2011

    Snoothrank:

Salty sweet caramel on the nose. Dark berry when poured. Red berry fruit with hints of darker fruit. It's pretty sweet on the palate with a fairly thick mouthfeel. Lingonberry. Candy notes. It lingers long and is more decadent than refreshing. Weak acid. Lacks balance for me. Well suited for dessert.6/20/12 Read More

  • Château de la Roulerie Rosé d'Anjou 2011

    Snoothrank:

I always thought Rose d'Anjou was the standard for Rose. I did not enjoy this at all. It was sappy sweet, almost like crushed hard candy (Jolly Rancher). It felt like my lips were sticky after sippin this. Read More

  • Château de la Roulerie Rosé d'Anjou 2011

    Snoothrank:

Delicate and with an almost vegetal floral note on the nose over spicy, astringent red berry fruit that shows a hint of juniper. A bit obviously sweet in the mouth with plenty of balancing acidity to make the orange edged red cherry and lightly plummy fruit rather attractive. The finish shows sweetness but it's balanced by a lovely vein of bitte... Read More

  • Château de la Roulerie Rosé d'Anjou 2011

    Snoothrank:

Big ripe red fruit on the nose... very ripe strawberries on the palate, followed by an interesting burnt caramel finish... prolly why many call this CANDY! For me, a great apertif or sipper... beware... easy to overchill or underchill.... very small window of optimal temperature IMO. Read More
