Smoke and berries. 55% Carmenere and 45% Syrah coming from Chile's Elqui valley make this a juicy wine, full ripe red and black fruit and waves of smoked meat (think roasting a whole pig). The sun is very intense in Elqui, so the skins on these grapes are actually considerably thicker than in other part of Chile. This adds to the smokey, spiciness of the wine and deep, rich taste. This wine wants barbecued anything, I'm thinking pork or turkey.
