Grapes Less Traveled

This list is for the adventurous types out there or for the seasoned wine drinker who is simply tired of the same varietals over and over and over again.  All the wines on this list will either be of a relatively unknown varietal or a relatively familiar varietal that is usually only seen in blends.

If you've had a Port (a real one from Portugal) you are familiar with this grape whether you realize it or not. The tragedy is many wine savvy folks have never had the pleasure of experiencing a dry varietal version. Here is a great example of what his grape can do and at a great price to boot. This wine boasts macerated black and blueberries, vanilla bean, cinnamon all backed by a nice layer of minerality. Any fan of deep, rich, full bodied wines will be right at home here. In my opinion Portuguese dry wines represent some of the best value on the market today.
