Our house was built in 1766 by Maria Theresia, and has been an elementary school in "Mauer" which used to be a little village before it became part of Vienna.
For 3 Generations, the Zahel family is growing wine. They started with 0.5 hectars and 4 tables in their wine bistro. Today Richard Zahel is operating wineyards in Mauer, on the famous Nussberg Hill but also in Oberlaa and Sievering. In 2003, Richard Zahel was the first winemaker to market the traditional "Gemischter Satz" which is the most important representative of Viennese wine culture today. We are very proud that the Italian "Slowfood" organization made the "Wiener Gemischter Satz" one of their "Präsidio Products" with "Nussberg Grande Reserve" Gemischter Satz entered the Premium League of Austrian white wines.
