Youngberg Hill Vineyards is 22 total acres, 12 acres of Pinot Noir planted in 1989 and 5 acres of Pinot Gris planted in 2007, and 5 acres of Pinot Noir planted in 2008. The 1989 Pinot Noir is own-root, 60% Pommard clone and 40% Wadenswil, and the Pinot Gris is on 3309 root stock of 146 & 152 clones. Natasha Block is the larger of the two at an altitude of approximately 650 feet on Willakenzie soil. The Jordan Block is on a steeper slope at an altitude of approximately 750 feet on predominately Steiwer soil. The Aspen Block is at 600 feet on Steiwer soil. We do not irrigate. The earth’s soil components are complimented by distinct weather in these coast foothills. Our weather is most heavily influenced by weather patterns coming up the Van Duzer Pass from the coast. This influence provides more precipitation than most of the valley, more sun days and cooler temperatures both day and night. • We flew out west in early March (04 March 2017) to continue our annual wine tasting / visiting trips with relatives and friends.  The hotels and other places to stay were all set, but the wineries on the visit list were not totally determined in advance.  We planned two days of tasting in the Willamette Valley (McMinnville, Oregon) and two days ... • Anyone have any experience?I've noticed Kelley mentioned among the best company in Oregon Pinot, popular with Somm's and the like. Being a Burgundy lover, I've mostly found CA Pinot painful (though I've found a few I like!), and Oregon Pinot quite a bit more elegant, but sometimes or most of the time more boring rather than painful (as I find wi... • As I sit here trying to come to some conclusion it occurs to me that perhaps I am going about this all wrong. I amafter all a wine snob. Yes, it’s true, I am biased and I know it. I am first and foremost a red wine drinkerso when I think of the best regions my thoughts automatically run towards things like Nebbiolo and Piedmont, PinotNoir and Bu... Read More

  • Youngberg Hill Vineyards Jordan Block Pinot Noir 2010

The not-yet-released 2010 Pinot Noir (as of 01/07/2013) was the last in our vertical of wines from the Jordan Block. In 2010, owner Wayne Bailey started to take the holistic approach to farming. Interestingly enough, the notes found in the 2010 Jordan Block Pinot Noir were quite different from the other vintages we tried. Currants, black pepper,... Read More

  • Youngberg Hill Vineyards Jordan Block Pinot Noir 2009

Starting in 2009, the Youngberg Hill labels were changed to reflect their progress in practicing holistic farming, and the closures went from cork to screw caps. After conducting some research, owner Wayne Bailey learned that screw caps leave the lowest carbon footprint, while offering longer ageability of wine and obviously depleting any risk o... Read More

  • Youngberg Hill Vineyards Jordan Block Pinot Noir 2008

Bursting concentrated black fruit aromas and flavors, harmonious balance and impressive acidity. I loved the full-bodied blackberry, black cherry and currant aromas and flavors along with the fresh, undiffused acidity two words in my notes that I wrote in all caps: Vibrant, alive. The mouthfeel was luxurious and silky smooth, and the raisin and... Read More

  • Youngberg Hill Vineyards Jordan Block Pinot Noir 2007

In the Willamette Valley, 2007 was a year that many farmers heavily complained about the weather during harvest, which was immediately translated to consumers that it was a bad vintage; in truth, it was quite good. Much like a Burgundian, in terms of earthiness, balance and lower alcohol, the 2007 Jordan Block Pinot Noir had beautiful smoky, ear... Read More

  • Youngberg Hill Vineyards Jordan Block Pinot Noir 2006

Robust in color, aroma and flavor largely offering earthy qualities with some vibrant red fruit, this wine has great complexity and bold tannins ending with a long, intense finish with reinforced acidity. Although the earthy flavors were more pronounced than the fruit, the nice acidity added to its depth of character, creating a solid wine. The... Read More
