Hi everyone. This is my first post on the boards. My wife and I are doing a long weekend in Healdsburg (Jan 15-17) and Yountville (Jan 17-19) over MLK weekend and were looking for some recommendations on wineries to visit. We tend to like more full bodied red wines, but are open to other wines as well. We are from New York and want to focus o... Read More
OK, this is a topic that hasn't come up recently but has many times in the past. How to store wine in the house? Whether to refrigerate? How to choose passive or refrigerated wine cellars? What kind of wine fridges are best? Etc., etc.I was doing some real estate shopping in the Ventura/Santa Barbara counties area and ran across a higher-end h... Read More
Due to popular demand (don't ask where that demand came from or you'll spoil my fun), we appear to need some new wine discussion topics. This topic was only relevant to Thursday as a test case but was subsequently expanded to cover the weekend too. What ever you bring up in this topic should either occur on a Thursday - Sunday, or it could be ... Read More

I have had only one Ruths Chris experience, about 15 years ago. I thought the food was good. It was a business lunch, though, and nobody was taking any wine. So, Al's is the first wine list that I've seen. I'm glad that GregT mentioned about the prices, because I thought they were high also. I, also, noticed the Beringer, which is a wine I ... Read More
Just finished tasting Ballabourneen The Stuart 2013 Chardonnay (Australian Wine Selectors Hunter Valley Series January 2014 dozen), bottled under screwcap. Supposed to have a "round and subtle biscuity finish" Well the bottle I tasted was way to subtle for me I'm afraid! I think it is due to last week's tasting of the Tapanappa 2008 Tiers Picca... Perhaps we could use a place to share recent purchases...Here are some '12 Burlotto Langhe Nebbiolo, which came highly recommended from a trusted friend who just got back from a month in Italy. I'm not seeing many available in the States quite yet, but was happy to find these locally. Read More
I'll be in Charlotte, NC on business the week of February 24th, and was hoping some locals might be able to help out with a few questions, and maybe get together to open a bottle or two. Any help would be appreciated, and it would be great to meet Snoothers from that neighborhood. -Bob1) Are there any BYOB restaurants in Charlotte?2) If so, what... Read More
While traveling through Napa Valley last month I noticed that all the Vineyards I visited had roses planted around their crops. They're planted and watched closely for any early signs of infestation on the land. They monitor the Roses closely and upon early signs of problems, protective measures are taken to make sure the grape vines receive a s... Read More
My wife and I will be visiting San Francisco in April for a weeks vacation. We're staying at the Executive Hotel Vintage Court who's theme is wine. They have nightly wine tastings and wine gatherings. Also scheduled in the trip is a days excursion to the Napa Valley via bus stopping at 5 different vineyards. I have always loved Napa Valley Cabe... Read More
