Yes, there really is a Joe! Joe Dobbes is the man behind your bottle of Wine By Joe. As the sole owner and winemaker of Wine By Joe, LLC, Joe is a busy guy. As he says, "Passion fuels endless energy." Joe has been making wine in Oregon for over twenty years and his passion increases with each vintage. Driven to excellence in his art, Joe Dobbes is the consummate winemaker. Raised in a small town in the north Willamette Valley and educated in Ashland, Joe is a true Oregonian and is dedicated to Oregon wines. Yet his calling began outside Oregon, in Germany and France, where Joe spent 2 1⁄2 years learning the art and science of winemaking. He apprenticed at Wiengut Erbhof Tesch, in the German Nahe region and at Domaine G. Roumier and Domaine Comtes Lafon in the Burgundy region, France, with winemasters Christophe Roumier and Dominque Lafon. – Description from AlexJelena

  • It may seem foolish but if I don’t have a glass of wine, or two, with my dinner then I can never enjoy whatever it is I’m eating. It can be the most amazing, top class gourmet meal but without a glass of wine it may as well be cardboard. And if I happen to be eating cardboard, so long as I have a glass of wine, I may just enjoy whatever it is th... Read More

  • My husband and I traveled to southern Italy last year and while in Taormina, Sicily, Italy we had a wonderful almond wine.  It is more of a dessert wine, but not too sweet like I've found with other dessert wines.  I would like to find somewhere I could order it online or even from some place in the States.  Can anyone help?  Thanks.  Read More

  • As a wine consumer I love to read about others experiences with wine, but one of the most frustrating things is when you read about a great wine that you simply cannot find. With over 100,000 different wines made every year and at best only a few thousand of those making it on to your local stores' shelves, searching down a specific wine can be ... Read More

  • Thought I'd start a topic to see what "different" wines people are drinking. I've been on a hunt to find wines made from lesser known grapes or from unusual areas. Here's one of each. This is a rose made from Cinsault, not too unusual right? Well this is from the Bekaa Valley in Lebanon. Either they don't make very good wine in Lebanon or this bo... Read More

  • I'm sorry that I ignored this one for a few days, Symie, but I really don't remember the flavor profile of the California Sauterne.  I'm sure I had some, but, heck, that was 40 years ago.  If it was dry and tart you may have some luck with Sauvignon Blanc.  That is widely available at a lot of price points.  If there is a Trader Joe's near you, ...
