Yes, there really is a Joe! Joe Dobbes is the man behind your bottle of Wine By Joe. As the sole owner and winemaker of Wine By Joe, LLC, Joe is a busy guy. As he says, "Passion fuels endless energy." Joe has been making wine in Oregon for over twenty years and his passion increases with each vintage. Driven to excellence in his art, Joe Dobbes is the consummate winemaker. Raised in a small town in the north Willamette Valley and educated in Ashland, Joe is a true Oregonian and is dedicated to Oregon wines. Yet his calling began outside Oregon, in Germany and France, where Joe spent 2 1⁄2 years learning the art and science of winemaking. He apprenticed at Wiengut Erbhof Tesch, in the German Nahe region and at Domaine G. Roumier and Domaine Comtes Lafon in the Burgundy region, France, with winemasters Christophe Roumier and Dominque Lafon. – Description from AlexJelena

  • Can you imagine going to a restaurant and ordering food you’d never heard of, shelling out for a theatre ticket without having some idea of what the show was about, or choosing a dress you didn’t even like? Of course not. But that’s what happens when it comes to wine. Sadly, most people haven’t a clue what they’re buying; the price tag, an attra... Read More

  • Here's something you might look at, Joe. Nothing too challenging here.  Homogenized berry fruit on entry, and by that, I mean that I'm thinking of somebody throwing a bunch of strawberries, blueberries and blackberries into a blender and hitting the puree button.  Other than a being a tad heavy on the acid, I don't find anything offensive about ... • Joe,To address sales only, at under $20 point, the Robert Mondavi Private Selection line seems VERY popular out here in CA.  I personally cannot vouch for it, but I've had store wine folks tell me it goes fast, and I have some friends that swear by it.  Again, my advice is for sales not my personal taste :-) Read More

  • here's also some decent stuff from New Mexico of all places. GregT - I am assuming you are talking about Gruet.  They make a real nice sparkling wine.  And (what else could you expect) the family immigrated here from France...That Gruet is very decent.  I was surprised by that for the price.  I would recommend that for your selection, Joe.  Read More

  • Hi everybody I'm a small store owner at the edge of the rust belt, my customers rarely spend over $20 for a bottle, and I am looking to improve my selection a bit beyond what is here now. If you have a minute to help a guy out let me know what you think are the best wines that usually sell for $20 or less. Thanks ! Read More

  • Here's the funny thing:  For just a minute, Napa Ridge Cab was made from grapes from Napa Valley.  So that added to the confusion.  Franzia sometimes bought up labels that had some history or a reputation.  (His company is called Bronco, because the Franzia name was bought by Coca Cola and sold to The Wine Group.  So there's lots of history and ... • Ok, new year and time for a new topic of discussion.  Just yesterday I opened this Pinot Noir from California that initially sounded promising.  First  - it was given to Sandra as a retirement gift so it was free.  Second - a Pinot Noir bottled in St. Helena CA, so it has to be decent, right? and Third - a nice looking label.  Well, this 2014 Me... • Thanks for taking the time to check it out.  I know it's probably dull and irrelevant to most of you guys.Where I was going with this is that it's already effected my local BC Wine shop.  It's about five minutes drive away and loaded with great stuff that you would ordinarily have to go to the wineries to get.  They do great tastings on the week...
