In 1997 we purchased five acres of bare land in an area of the Okanagan Valley known as "The Golden Mile" for its unique grape growing microclimate. Our vision was to grow grapes and to produce world class dessert wines -specifically, Merlot Icewine in contrast to the usual white varieties. (Although we do also produce a very small amount of Riesling.) Our first vintage in 2001 produced only 600 bottles. In 2002 the weather did not allow us to make Icewine; instead we produced a special Select Merlot Late Harvest. In 2003 we enjoyed an early cold snap and produced 2500 bottles of Icewine. This season we picked on January 8th and the wine is fermenting as I write this. – Description from dvoristanac

A young wine industry but one that has made... Read More

  • Well I have plans to include several Syrahs in this thread over the next 2 weeks but let me begin with one of my favorite Syrah producers. J L Chave and his lovely 1996 Hermitage:Richly aromatic from the moment this is opened offering up an array of gamy tones to the earthy, blackberry fruit. Integrated in the mouth with the acidity seemingly qu... Read More

The event was promoted as "The Grain Meets The Grape an evening of Scottish tradition." This was Napas second annual Burns dinner organized by Ediburgh's (and Larkmead's) own Colin MacPhail who entranced us all with the promise ... Read More
