Willow Crest Winery

Willow Crest Winery was founded in 1995 by David J. Minick, a longtime grape grower in the Yakima Valley. The Minick Family first planted wine grapes on their Roza farm, North of Prosser in 1982. David wanted to take the love he had for raising grapes to the next level by making premium wine out a small portion of the family vineyard. Focusing on Pinot Gris/Grigio and Syrah, Willow Crest Winery uses estate grown fruit that winemaker David J. Minick planted, cultivated, and harvested to create crisp Pinot Gris and bold Syrah's. By having the control from vine to wine David can monito crop load, canopy size, sun exposure, and the balance of fruit and sugar at harvest time. All this attention to the grape comes out in the Willow Crest wines. – Description from Dragac

  • Willow Crest Sauvignon Blanc 2012

    Snoothrank:

Reticent on the nose though instantly recognizable as Sauvignon Blanc with its hints of grass, pineapple, and fig. Noticeably sweet in the mouth, which is not what i am looking for, this is a fruit forward popularly styled wine and for those who prefer sweet wines this carries its sugar fairly well. Theres plenty of acid to balance the sweetness... Read More

  • Willow Crest Pinot Gris Yakima Valley 2011

    Snoothrank:

Id like to think that Im a pioneer by shamelessly admitting that I occasionally drink my wine out of a Solo-cup, at least when Im on the beach. The Mrs. seems to frown on me bringing my own stemware! The Willow Crest Pinot Gris is clean and crisp, but also bolder than most Pinot Gris from neighboring Oregon, at least that Ive tasted. Beautifully ... Read More

  • With almost all of our recent discussions of Syrah, the topic has eventually turned to the ageability. If the question is does Syrah age, the answer is of course. However, Syrah’s answer is more conditional than most. Allow me to explain by using a set of wines tasted last night to illustrate!First, lets take a look at what was tasted:1988 Edmun... Read More

  • I had posted the list of wines that I was going to be tasting for my upcoming Syrah evening, but as I posted elsewhere, things have changed a bit. After finding, and then losing, a bottle of 1990 Cline Syrah, and spending almost an hour looking for the damn thing, I discovered a few other bottles of Syrah lying about so my previous list now look... • I get so caught up in work that I often neglect to check in here. I'm apologizing about that!  I'm back afer a few weeks in New Zealand, which sucks up all my time not only during the trip but for the weeks prior and, as it looks, most of the week after my return. Before you ask, new Zealand was great. A young wine industry but one that has made... Read More
