Founded in 1983 by Oregon native, Jim Bernau, with the dream of creating world-class Pinot Noir, Willamette Valley Vineyards has grown from a bold idea into one of the region’s leading wineries, earning the title “One of America’s Great Pinot Noir Producers,” from Wine Enthusiast Magazine. Willamette Valley Vineyards approach is to grow, by hand, the highest quality fruit to produce wines of distinction, that are truly expressive of the varietal and the place where they are grown. All the vineyards, the Estate Vineyard, Tualatin Estate, and Elton vineyard, have been certified sustainable through LIVE (Low Input Viticulture and Enology) and Salmon Safe programs since 1997. In 2007, Willamette Valley Vineyards became the first winery in the world to use sustainable cork stoppers certified by the Rainforest Alliance and Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) standards. In 2010, Willamette Valley Vineyards released their first Oregon Certified Sustainable Wine (OCSW). Willamette Valley Vineyards commitment Read more »

  • Ponzi Pinot Noir Willamette Valley Reserve 2010

    Snoothrank:

Nice but not great Willamette pinot. Plenty of vibrant acidity and loads of ripe red cherry and cranberry but it seems a bit flat, the body is light and the finish is short. Possible that this is in its dumb stage and needs another year or three to come back around. Read More

  • Elk Cove Pinot Noir Rosé Willamette Valley 2013

    Snoothrank:

Really nice rose of pinot noir from Willamette. Light and lively with a nose of fresh strawberry. The flavor profile is a bit floral, with tart cherry, a splash of slightly under ripe strawberry and a bit of creamy lime on the finish. Tart mouth watering acidity plays well with the bright fruit. • Oregon's warmest growing season in recorded history, 2014, is brimming with bounty. With bud break, bloom and véraison all taking place about two to three weeks earlier than average, Oregon vintners can officially put the 2014 growing season in the record books. A warmer than average spring with just the right amount of rain triggered an early b... • Funny thing about these lava lamps - they were just for me to view since this was the desk in the den where I opened the wine bottles and placed them into several layers of newspaper bags to hide their identity.  These particular lamps allow you to turn them up too high though, so the material just stays at the top.  Now in the living room, wher... • Ponzi Vineyards Chardonnay Willamette Valley Reserve 2012

    Snoothrank:

Lemon curd, beeswax, apricot and a hint of cream on the nose. Flavors are bold and big and acidic, full of ripe lemon zest, baked apples, and grapefruit. Finishes long and clean with cream and vanilla notes. Read More

  • In a world where extremes are becoming the paradigms for perfection its a little surprising that one doesn’t hear much of the wines of Saxony. Strike that. One doesn’t hear anything about these wines. And that is not surprising because the production is tiny and the wines almost all consumed locally. But you should be hearing about these wines, ... The ... quite a bit. 90pts 2012 Willamette Valley Vineyards Pinot Gris Willamette Valley 13.5% $18 A bit earthy with hints of dried apple fruit on the nose along with a spicy, honeycomb like character.
