After the land had been purchased, Riesling and Gewurztraminer were planted and a contract was secured with Mission Hill wines. Over the next few years Mission Hill produced outstanding wines from the vineyards of Wild Goose. In the late eighties Adolf Kruger had a plan that would allow for the establishment of small wineries that would produce wines from grapes grown on site and sold through the "farm gate." Adolf, along with two other interested parties approached the government and presented them with their ideas, and after much lobbying and persistence, the farm gate winery in British Columbia was born!! It all began in early 1983 when founder Adolf Kruger purchased a barren piece of land east of Okanagan Falls. Upon his return to his newly purchased property it was here that he discovered a large flock of Canada geese feeding in amongst the tumbleweeds, boulders, and rubble. As he approached, the flock of geese took flight and flew to the north. From this time on the property became known as Wild Read more »

  • Have you noticed that wherever you are in the world, the Christmas lunch menu is set in stone? In England smoked salmon followed by a traditional turkey roast and Christmas pudding has produced broad smiles around the festive table for decades … I’m a big fan but the part that I don’t really get is when the same wines are rolled out year on year... • Wild Goose Vineyards Pinot Blanc Okanagan Valley Vqa Mystic River Vineyard 2011

Another delicious product from the folks at Wild Goose. This grape is (or should be) the signature white of British Columbia Canada; it loves the climate and produces an elegant wine like this example: there is a wonderful red delicious apple nose with some sweet pear. On entry the wine is spring water pure with more of the neutral flavour one... Read More

  • Wild Goose Vineyards Pinot Gris Mystic River Vineyard 2011

Lovely citrus, apple pie spice and soft white fruit such as pear on the nose. On entry, there are obvious Pinot Gris characteristics such as grapefruit and pear with a hint of shaved almond bitterness; fresh and slightly dilute with a sweet, medium finish, this wine is a gem. Good luck finding a full case. 90 points. Read More

  • Wild Goose Vinyards Riesling 2011

This Riesling is made in an attractive (just) off-dry style with a lovely, inviting green apple-citrus nose. The attack is mildly acidic - reflective of the cool summer no doubt - but there is a little sugar and spice to offset the green fruit of this vintage. This product is an excellent example of what a reasonably priced varietal with a cor... Read More

  • Wild Goose Vineyards Black Brant Rouge 2007

This Port style red is magnificent. (2006) The big fruit and chocolate seduces you like dessert. Smooth. Delicious. One of my favourites, when I can get it. Small quantities. Do not hesitate. Good thing it only comes in half bottles! They have a quaffable Pinot Gris, too. Read More

  • Would definitely be interested in hearing what people think are the best wineries, and wines, in the Okanagan. Hopefully with an explanation why. Have a good friend going for an extended stay, based in Kelowna, in a month or so, and it'd be nice to be able to offer some pointers. She and her husband drink a lot of New Zealand sauvignon blanc,... Read More
