The White Hawk Vineyard is planted on ancient sand dunes on the south facing slope of Cat Canyon, a side of the Los Alamos Valley in Santa Barbara County. It's 21 miles west of the Pacific and 2 miles north of Los Alamos and planted at 900 feet elevation. This region is recognized as a top producing wine region. Fog often embraces the small vineyard in the morning before gentle afternoon breezes chase it away to allow the sun's rays to slowly ripen the fruit. We custom farm using sustainable and primarily organic viticulture. The yields are miniscule and the berries intense with a strong core of acidity is complemented by elements of meat and blackberries. Although Chardonnay is also planted in this 75 acre vineyard, much of White Hawk's vineyard is planted with Syrah clone 1 on 5c rootstock or Syrah clone 6 on 140R rootstock. Fruit from White Hawk vineyard is shared with other prominent wineries including Ojai Vineyard, Andrew Murray Vineyards, Herman Story Wines, and Sine Qua Non. White Hawk vineyard Read more »

  • The Ojai Vineyard White Hawk Vineyard Sangiovese 2017

Very nice wine. Introduces itself with a subtle suggestion of red cherry. Mid-palate suggestion of herbs--marjoram, basil. Medium-bodied. Nicely refreshing. Read More

  • This Topic is partially intended to start a new thread on daily wine drinking as the earlier topics are just too long and too general.  How about telling us more about your choices and helping me start a new thread for the next generation, so to speak?  The "why" is the interesting part for some of us - but pictures are always welcome; after all... • Jon Derry was interested in this one when I posted on the "What have you bought, lately" thread. Ojai is one of my favorite wineries, but, sadly, I can't really recommend this one.  Tart red cherry.  My appreciation for acid in my wine has been reported often here on this Forum, but this one is just over the top.  There are no other dimensions i... • The Ojai Vineyard White Hawk Vineyard Sangiovese 2015

Pretty ruby color in the glass. Kind of a barnyard nose. Seriously tart red cherry on the tip of the tongue. This wine is not unlike a Chianti. Surprise! Inoffensive, but, sadly, also not revelatory. Read More

  • Not exactly sure what the dinner plan is for tonight, but this should work with ... a bottle of the Ojai 2010 White Hawk Vineyard Syrah and complained about the acid hit.  I'm pretty sure the problem I had with that wine was residue from an earlier meal.  (Happily, I have another bottle for future research.)  However, here is a Syrah from the s...
