The wine growing village of Pernersdorf is situated in the lovely Pulkautal valley, which lies in the heart of one of Lower Austria´s quarters, the Weinviertel. The village, which was first mentioned in early historical documents of 1180, has a long tradition of grape and wine cultivation. The property of the Ecker family consists of 9,5 hectares of vineyards, mainly situated on southerly diluvial loess hills, wonderful soil for the typical wines grown here. Great care is taken to create an ideal environment for the vines. To preserve the precious soil from being washed away, plants and herbs provide a cover; to minimize the use of chemicals to keep down pests and funguses we prune the vines and cooperate with the local branch of the chamber of agriculture that has installed an electronic warning system. After a year of intensive labour and basking in the Weinviertel´s blazing sun the best quality grapes are gathered by hand and gently processed in the family´s old cellars, each type of grape getting special treatment to develop its perfect fravour.
