Description 1 of 1

In the 1960s, Romeo Bruni and wife Maria Cinelli purchased 14 hectares (35 acres) of superb soil in the commune of Roccalbegna. In 1970, the first 5 hectares (12 acres) of vineyards were planted, followed in the ’80s by another 5 hectares in what was to become the DOC appellation of MONTECUCCO, in 1998. The vines of Sangiovese, Merlot, Malvasia, Chardonnay etc. are located on clayey-schistous terrain, at an average altitude of 350-380 meters above sea level. The 1990s are decisive years for the winery: two of the owners’ three children flank their parents, respectively as assistant (Patrizia) and vineyard manager (Maurizio). New plots within the Morellino di Scansano DOC are purchased, and 4 new hectares (10 acres) are planted with over 5,500 vines per hectare (about 2,230 per acre), in record time. This new terrain, in the commune of Scansano, is clayey-calcareous, very stony, and located in a hilly area planted with vines and olive trees at an average altitude of 200-250 meters above sea level, about 7 km. from the winery. Total surface of this family-run estate is 18 hectares (a little over 44 acres), 14 hectares of which under vine, 12 of them productive (i.e. 35 and 30 acres respectively). Villa Patrizia production now counts approximately 70,000 bottles and consists of the Morellino di Scansano and Montecucco DOCs, IGT wine and Grappas. – Description from dvoristanac
