This is a report I adapted from my recap on WB. Unfortunately a few guests fell ill in the days prior and had to bow out. Missed you Richard! All in all it was a fun evening with some interesting wines. Plenty of left overs to start the next incarnation. Weather was rain in the AM and we feared having to host indoors but the skies cleared around... Read More
Had this with Lunch at Cafe Pacific in Dallas.Bright slightly under-ripe Cherry, Pomegranate, and Cranberry. Well balanced Tannins and Acidity. More musky and vegetal and herbaceous than many of the other more fudge, oak, and smoke, Pinots I have had. Very enjoyable. Read More
RBA, that shellfish platter looks amazing. You would have had to roll me away after that. This 2001 zin was tasted at 11 yrs old and surprisingly, it was still very much alive. Obviously a late harvested, high octane, big style zin. Color is only fading a bit with slight brownish edges. It has plum and raisin notes in the nose. It has soft tannins with a sweet fruit impression. 14.9% Alc. Enjoyable wine-- 87 Read More
Big zin blended from Amador and Napa grapes. Lots of dark red fruit, dried plums, ripe dark cherries, some smoke, nice acidity, longish finish. The tannins are mellowing and there's a very good balance going on here. Great zin for the price. Read More

At this price point, this is a fantastic cab... Villa Mt. Eden is one of my favorite value brands as it consistently delivers. Juicy fruits, red and blue, with subtle hints of smoke and leather, and green pepper (a la cab franc which I think may be blended in). Light bodied for a Napa cab--very friendly everyday drinker.
