Veritas Vineyard & Winery

"Veritas Winery, a family business owned by Andrew and Patricia Hodson, opened for business in June 2002; with the help of their daughter Emily, they have succeeded in consistently producing a range of complex and elegant wines. The idyllic setting is easy to find but hard to leave, located just off I-64 at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The unique wines of Veritas are all of high quality, derived from vitis vinifera with the exception of one French hybrid. Our philosophy is to make wine with the classic, old-style principles of Viticulture and Vinification, at the same time using state of the art technology to capture varietal and regional character." – Description from george2

Veritas Vineyard & Winery on Snooth

  • Old Dominion is getting renewed interest in its growing network of vineyards. Earlier this month, the Circle of Wine Writers, a well-known international group of wine writers, journalists, photographers and experts visited Virginia's Nelson County to tour the region's wineries four year's after the groups visit to the area in 2010.  According to... • Veritas Othello Reserve NV

    Snoothrank:

After five years producing a port-style dessert wine, the vintner blended all vintages for a special reserve and aged it in toasted barrels. The result is deep, caramelized, and luxurious, but not quite my top choice for Virginia ports. Read More

  • Veritas Kenmar 2012

    Snoothrank:

Surprisingly light bodied for a dessert wine. Traminette grapes -- the sturdier hybrid daughter of Gewurztraminer -- are manually frozen for a German-inspired ice wine. Candied, honeyed, floral and tropical, but the lightened viscosity and clean finish keep it from the painful syrupy sweetness that usually makes me steer clear of white dessert w... Read More

  • Veritas Vintner's Reserve 2012

    Snoothrank:

Structured and assertive with very strong tobacco notes laced in with cherry and chocolate. Not something to drink on its own, this Bordeaux style blend begs for food -- I'd especially want to pair it with a coffee rubbed steak or pork chop, or something in a mole sauce. Fairly short finish, but it works. Read More

  • Veritas Petit Manseng 2013

    Snoothrank:

A sweeter style of Petit Manseng at 4% RS. Fortunately, the grape has enough of a natural acidic backbone it can stand up to that level of sugar. Very candied and tropical notes, not my preference. Read More

  • Veritas Red Star NV

    Snoothrank:

Alcoholic fruit punch. Zero complexity, no thought required. Truly international style wine for the masses -- but I don't go to small craft wineries for this. You can get it at the supermarket for a lower price. Read More

  • Veritas Merlot 2013

    Snoothrank:

Only six months of barrel aging - yikes. This would have been a lovely, plush, and earthy red had it been allowed to age properly. Perhaps bottle aging will be enough, but I would have liked to see a longer period in neutral barrels. Read More

  • Veritas Claret 2013

    Snoothrank:

Not sure how they get away with calling it a Bordeaux-style blend when there's a hefty portion of Chambourcin in the mix... Very young, very oaky -- lots of berries and chocolate, but still lacks power. Read More

  • Veritas Rose 2013

    Snoothrank:

A very basic, palatable dry rose, but nothing phenomenal. Has a nice tart acidity - would be a good palate cleanser at a summer barbecue with lots of flavorful dishes. Read More

  • Veritas White Star NV

    Snoothrank:

A very basic white blend featuring some common East Coast hybrid grapes with prominent tropical tones. Young, fruity, simple. A crowd pleaser, nothing special. Read More

  • My wife and I love going to Veritas! They have great wine, but the service is 2nd to none. Everyone there is so helpful and nice. They have just started offering VALET PARKING! When we first saw that we were blown away. Great wine, great people and great class with the valet parking. We love the door side service.
