Great wines are made in the vineyard, and the Ventana Vineyard has the perfect combination of water, soil, climate, art and science to create superb, world-class wines. Our success is evidenced by the number of awards that we have won over the years on wine made from this remarkable property. In fact, wines from our Ventana Vineyard have earned more medals and awards than any other single vineyard in America. – Description from dvoristanac

  • “Winemakers and other wine professionals are a generous lot. We have frequently written of a long list of winemakers and winery owners from those in our own enological 'neighborhood' to the group in California and Oregon, those along the East Coast, from the Old World appellations of Europe and the New World ones of South American, Australia, Ne... • I was wondering what sort of new topic I could start that would pair nicely with my previous posting 'Weekday Wines'; well here it is - Weekend Wines.  Sometimes I just have to stop and take a minute to pat myself on the back for my quick wit but alas, this isn't one of those times.  Anyway, why not talk about wines we enjoy on weekends?  These ... • Well known producer with broad distribution.  Definitely one of the bigger names in Rhone grapes on the Central Coast, along with Stolpman, Qupe, Tablas Creek, some others that escape me.  I bought and enjoyed a rose of theirs some years ago.  I had the blend--probably the same one you bought--and have no memory of it.  Guessing it was inoffensi... • Ventana Premium Chardonnay Monterey 2011

    Snoothrank:

This is a big style Chardonnay. Lots of viscosity/body combined with outstanding Monterey fruit. Long finish. Reminds me of the 2010 Gold strip but at twice the price. Not a good value. My rating -- 93 After many years of Gold Stripe production, they seem to have changed gears and given the customer a lesser wine with their regular Chardonnay an... Read More

  • Ventana Vineyards Chardonnay Arroyo Seco 2011

    Snoothrank:

Very nice Monterey chardonnay. Light and crisp with decent acidity. Not overly complex but a very pleasant mid-week wine that is not overly oaked or too buttery. Just a very good inexpensive chard - great QPR. Read More

  • Ventana Riesling Arroyo Secco 2010

    Snoothrank:

This is a drier style Riesling but not bone dry. Simple peach nose, subdued fruit and around 1% RS. Slightly oxidized but enjoyable. My rating -- 86 Read More

  • Ventana Vineyards Pinot Gris Arroyo Seco 2010

    Snoothrank:

Straw gold with a slight pink tinge, this wine is unusual in that it has a small amount of residual sugar (1%?). I'm guessing that the inspiration for this wine came from Germany (Rulander Kabinett). It has a peach, melon and green apple nose but is a bit shy. This wine is fairly big bodied. It needs a bit more acid to be balanced correctly but ... Read More

  • I noticed that OutThere purchased seven bottles of a particular wine at $14 and it occurred to me that it was a $100 purchase, and enough to last about a week.  So I got curious, and mentioned in the thread that it would be interesting to know how much per week people spent.  Well, Emark has better records and more time on his hands than I do, a... • Ventana Vineyards Chardonnay Arroyo Secco 2010

    Snoothrank:

This wine is from a long line of great Chardonnays from this producer. This is the Gold Stripe designation. Their 2010 tastes partly barrel fermented and partly stainless fermented. It has characteristics of both (Malolactic notes, oak, citrus). Rich fruit--Very nice effort. Lots of extract-- My rating 92. Tasted twice in Aug 2012-- Exc value at... Read More
