Valdez Family Winery on Snooth

  • Holdredge is a fair stumble from downtown, but it could be done on foot.  On the way there, you should check out Ulises Valdez, unless you are planning to vote for Trump. (I don't want to know, let's not infect this place with politics, I'm just saying Trump voters won't want to support Ulises.) The winery is actually Valdez Family wines, and it... Read More

  • Hi everyone.  This is my first post on the boards.  My wife and I are doing a long weekend in Healdsburg (Jan 15-17) and Yountville (Jan 17-19) over MLK weekend and were looking for some recommendations on wineries to visit.  We tend to like more full bodied red wines, but are open to other wines as well. We are from New York and want to focus o... Read More

  • Valdez Family Winery Zinfandel Sonoma County 2011

    Snoothrank:

Another really nice zin from Valdez. Not as concentrated or complex as some of their other offerings but there is plenty of red fruit, blackberry, medium body, medium to light tannins and a medium finish. This went well with BBQ pork chops on a Friday night. Read More

  • Valdez Family Winery Zinfandel St. Peter's Church Vineyard 2009

    Snoothrank:

This is a big, dark Anderson Valley zin from Valdez, probably the least restrained they make. Loads of ripe black cherries, blackberries, fig, dried plum along with a touch of smoke and spice. This wine carries its not shy alcohol of 15.2% very well. The tannins are smooth and well integrated along with a fairly long finish. Read More

  • After much agony and discernment, I have chosen the official wine for my Super Bowl party this year. Over the 9 years I've hosted this event, it is probably the least exotic selection, not to mention least expensive.  Given the fact chili is the main dish (oh please, don't turn your nose. After all, we're American pigskin fans, not Bolsheviks), ... Read More

  • Valdez Lancel Creek Zinfandel 2010

    Snoothrank:

A big tasty Russian River zin from Valdez. Red and black cherries on the nose and more so on the palate. Bright, fruity and easy to drink. Nice acidity with a short to medium finish. Read More

  • Valdez Family Winery Sauvignon Blanc Russian River Valley U.V. El Diablo Vineyard 2012

    Snoothrank:

Very similar to the 2011 but perhaps a bit more honey and a touch of caramel balanced with nice acidity. Here's my review of the 2011 bottle:Fantastic sauvignon blanc from northern Russian River. More Sancerre than New Zealand or Australian. Not so much grapefruit but more lemon peel, green apple, subtle honey and great balance. Read More

  • Valdez Family Winery Zinfandel Rockpile Botticelli Vineyard 2009

    Snoothrank:

These notes from my review of the '08 apply to this '09 offering:Big Rockpile zin. Tons of dark fruit, dried plum, smoke, leather, tobacco with a nice long finish. Lots of body and character. Read More

  • Valdez Quinn Vineyard Zinfandel Sonoma County Dry Creek Valley 2009

    Snoothrank:

Excellent Dry Creek zin from Valdez. This is more subtle than some of their other zins, less jammy and a bit more refined. Still has abundant red and black fruits, blueberry compote, moderate acidity and fine grained tannins. Read More

  • I was wondering what sort of new topic I could start that would pair nicely with my previous posting 'Weekday Wines'; well here it is - Weekend Wines.  Sometimes I just have to stop and take a minute to pat myself on the back for my quick wit but alas, this isn't one of those times.  Anyway, why not talk about wines we enjoy on weekends?  These ...
