Unti Vineyards is a small, family-owned and operated winery specializing in red varietal wines with vineyard personality. George and his son Mick believe Dry Creek Valley’s climate is ideal for making full-bodied, fruity reds from Zinfandel, Rhone and Italian varietals. The winery, established in 1997, produces small lots of estate grown Zinfandel, Syrah, Grenache, Barbera, Sangiovese, Petite Sirah and a Dry Rose. The winemaking includes artisan methods which enhance and support an ability to make wines with a sense of place. Almost all of the wines, and opinions, are unfiltered. – Description from Kursulla

  • Hi everyone.  This is my first post on the boards.  My wife and I are doing a long weekend in Healdsburg (Jan 15-17) and Yountville (Jan 17-19) over MLK weekend and were looking for some recommendations on wineries to visit.  We tend to like more full bodied red wines, but are open to other wines as well. We are from New York and want to focus o... Read More

  • On and off with differing frequency mention is made on these boards of garnacha as a choice for certain palates, and in certain contexts. Most of the mention here is pretty generic, and doesn't get down to any level of detail.Would like to suggest we take up the subject of wines from this grape with better focus. Where is good, who makes the goo... Read More

  • We're doing a long weekend in Russian River and Napa this weekend. Flew into San Francisco yesterday with no problems. Friend picked us up at the airport, definitely beats the heck out of fighting the huge crowd at the rental car counters. Why don't they have a contiguous highway from the airport to hwy 101.So what's the first thing to do in win... Read More

  • California, the land of sunshine, free spirits, and big wines. Right? Yes, of course, all that is true but today we are seeing that free spirited attitude change the paradigm for wine production. Some might say that we are witnessing a return to a different style of wine. Fresher, lower in alcohol and having more in common with wines produced se... Read More

  • Renard Primitivo Unti Vineyards Dry Creek Valley 2009

    Snoothrank:

More red than purple in the glass. Fairly volatile nose with hints of spice. Quite fruity on initial taste--raspberry, maybe some peach, maybe some prune. There is detectable sweetness although it is just a hint. A fairly easy to drink wine. I think though that it would accompany fruit (e.g., apple) and cheese more than a traditional entree... • Unti Vineyards Syrah Dry Creek Valley Benchland 2010

    Snoothrank:

Big fruit greets the nose, a little jammy and black and framed with notes of cracked pepper and spicy, toasty oak spice. Broad and a bit flat in the mouth though this has plenty of acidity, its just dense and compact . The fruit feels a bit compressed and chunky with sweeter, softer edges that the Syrah normale. It seems more Californian, smoky... Read More

  • Unti Syrah 2010

    Snoothrank:

Nice blue fruit with subtle herbal accents greets the nose. Theres a brushy here, a bit of eucalyptus spice. Smooth and polished in the mouth this shows off nice mid palate weight, a little bit chewy with fine fruit tannins supporting nice dry blueberry and raspberry fruit flavors accented with some attractive spice notes that extends over the l...
