Turley is a winery that focuses on small production “Big Red” wines from old vine Zinfandel and Petite Syrah, based in St. Helena in the Napa Valley, California. The winery is a family operation helmed brother and sister duo Larry and Helen Turley, founded in 1993. Their prestigious wines are in constantly high demand, and their private wine club has a two-year waiting list. The wines are produced from several vineyards, with vines dating back to the 1800s. Each terroir lends its own character to the wines, and they are given separate labels according to location each vintage. The vineyards are located in Napa, Sonoma, Paso Robles, Lodi, Howell Mountain and Contra Costa.

  • Earthquake Zinfandel Lodi Appelation 2007

On the nose, there were blueberries, blackberries, nutmeg, cloves, and alcohol followed by a touch of cinnamon, vanilla, and earth. In the mouth, there were blueberries, boysenberries, blackberries, and baking spices, mixed with vanilla, earth, and alcohol. The wine had medium tannins and a medium-to-full, velvety body. • Hello all.  Tonight we are hosting the wine club where our theme will be ... highlights will be a 2008 Turley and the Robert Biale black chicken.  I am a strong believer in letting wines breath.  There does seem to be some controversy over how long to let em breath.  Do different varietals require more than others?  Does vintage come into play... • Or what's on the table for tonight?2008 Turley Zinfandel Juvenile - Busted into the '08s to see what's in store. This Juvenile is progressing nicely from previous vintages. Not so juvenile anymore I guess. Fruity Turley nose, nice balanced palate with a peppery finish. A little heat but not overpowering. This can lay down for a while but is drin... Read More

  • Turley Wine Cellars Petite Syrah Hayne Vineyard 2002

Popped and poured, dark purple coated the glass in 1 swirl and stayed there, nose of leather and earth with fruit trying to push through but unsuccessfully. Decanted 1 hour and re-poured. Opened up nicely and the jammy fruit pushed forward. Very pleasing blackberry and cherry flavors with a bit of spice. Just a touch of heat on the backside and ... Read More

  • Turley Zinfandel California Old Vines 2007

I enjoyed the Turley 2007 Old Vine Zinfandel last night with dinner (April 10, 2010). It paired nicely with some highly flavorful and robustly seasoned salmon, couscous and asparagus. This Zin is beautiful - not too jammy like many zins are these days. It's appropriately spicy and peppery, with plum and berry notes interwoven giving it a lovel... Read More
