A couple of news items I was pondering today.First, Robert Parker came out with his ratings for the 2009 Bordeaux vintage. Ever the masochist, I decided to go look at some prices in the marketplace after the ratings were released. Some samplings:2009 Chatau Latour 100 points $21,500 a case2009 Chateau Marg... Read More

If I were anywhere near New York on the 29th I'd be going to this event. Great wine, interesting winemakers, and lots of old posters, art nouveau or otherwise. Why is it I'd rather have one of them on my wall then a Flash banner ad from the Web?Price seems like more than a bargain, and the money goes to charity, too.... ... Here's your chance ... Read More

Just thought I would share three videos on Bordeaux 2010, from en primeur week. I like how Bill Blatch for example lends a certain realism to the tasting experience, although I did not find the wines THAT difficult to taste. Certainly 2009 was easier to taste en primeur, it was a more immediately flattering tasting experience on the whole. As wa... Read More

I know we love all types of wine.. and it does depend upon the food pairing, but does anyone just have that favorite wine... the "go to" wine when you want something great?I'll tell you mine... 2008 Lioco Sonoma Coast pinot noir. I have tasted SO much pinot this year- even recently- that I really liked. I have even tasted extensively up in Wil... Read More

HelloQuick question.... which area of Bordeaux produces the most full bodied, smokey, leathery reds?I understand it is a very difficult question which can change depending on vintage etc but as a typical rule of thumb, which areas give a heavier and in particular smokier/oakier red?Excuse my basic knowledge...I am but a mere amature!ThanksD Read More

Upon tasting the 2008 Troplong Mondot at the UGC in Los Angeles, and then reading about its history and terroir, I must say i'm a big fan of this winery and of St. Emilion in general. Very good quality and dependable right banker indeed.
