Trader Joe is a privately held chain of specialty grocery stores that began in Pasadena, California and are now peppered across the United States. The first store, then called Pronto Markets, opened in 1958. In 1967 as the business expanded, founder Joe Coulombe changed the name to Trader Joe’s and began the trademark Hawaiian themed decor, complete with staff all wearing Hawaiian shirts. • You are right about supporting the Napa wineries.  We had a chardonnay from Napa last night - one with a Trader Joe's label.  It was quite decent for the price ($9.95).  This is one we tasted in the store. Read More

  • Keep in mind that Trader Joe's is known for 'Two Buck Chuck', a very cheap wine.  They carry a few decent ones but you should expect to pay $15 and up for decent bottles of wine.  Nice picture, by the way! Read More

  • Valerie, welcome Snooth. It looks like Purple Moon is a private label sold by Trader Joe's.  Reading between the lines of this article, it looks like TJ's comes to arrangements with various wineries to stick the Purple Moon label onto some bottles of wine and, then, sell them in their stores. So, if there is a Trader Joe's close to you, then you ... Read More

  • Hi everyone!  I found this site while searching for where I could buy Purple Moon Merlot. I had been given a bottle and my boyfriend and I enjoyed it last night.  Needless to say it was delicious.  I am not versed in the proper descriptions of how a wine tastes or weather or not is 'dry' or what 'notes' it may have. I am hoping this site will of... Read More

  • Hey everyone, what are some of your favorite 'everyday' or M-F types of wines to accompany a regular dinner?  I personally have enjoyed the Montoya Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa, and I usually pick it up from Total Wines out here in Virginia.  This is one of those fruit-forward cabs that isn't too complex for me to appreciate, and it usually cost...
