Trader Joe is a privately held chain of specialty grocery stores that began in Pasadena, California and are now peppered across the United States. The first store, then called Pronto Markets, opened in 1958. In 1967 as the business expanded, founder Joe Coulombe changed the name to Trader Joe’s and began the trademark Hawaiian themed decor, complete with staff all wearing Hawaiian shirts. The stores specialize in private label food and grocery items, many of them certified organic and sustainable. Foods are labeled in whimsical accordance to the ethnicity of the products, i.e. “Trader Giotto’s” for Italian, “Trader José’s” for Mexican, “Trader Ming’s” for Chinese, etc. This direct supply method allows them to pass savings onto customers by keeping costs low. If an item doesn’t sell well, it is (often to the consternation of some customers) discontinued. A maritime bell is used as a means of communication (one bell = assistance Read more »

Trader Joe's on Snooth

  • I really like WTSO for our everyday wines. They ship out on Monday or Tuesday and I pick-up at my FedEx Store on Thursday or Friday. Funny fact the FedEx store is right next to Total Wine and I pick up much more wine at the FedEx store. In fact the lady that knows me well at TW told me the other day "I thought you had given-up on wine since I ha... Read More

  • Schramsberg is available at Trader Joe's.  And, yes, it is better than Roederer Estate.  But if she wants/needs to spend less, the Roederer is good.  J Cuvee 20 is also an option right around $20 and the bottle is fancy, so it makes a nice prize.Anyone like red in that crowd?  I think the nicest reds in the $20-30 range are Riojas, Reservas and ... • Sara, am I correct in assuming that you want to spend a total $200 for all seven prizes?  Also, each prize will consist of a bottle of wine and something else?If both my assumptions are correct, then the way I see it you don't want to spend more than $12 or $15 per bottle of wine.  La Crema Sonoma Coast Chardonnay should come in at about your bu... I will be giving out 7 prizes throughout Brunch, and each prize will come with a bottle of wine or champaign. What would be a good prize? Also, since Im purchasing 7 of them, I'd like to keep it under $200.00. Th... Read More

  • Tonight's a tonight, right, I've got the correct thread? As long as you drink it, you're OK.  If you do not drink it before sunrise tomorrow, you can withdraw it. Rckr has inspired me, but I can't compete with his (Is Rckr a "he?") $3.99 wine.  This one was $6.99 at Trader Joe's, and I am drinking it as I am composing here at the keyboard. So, I ... Read More

  • Castro Cellars has an additional outlet, if you don't want to beat it down to Paso. They provide much of the "Trader Joe's" label product. It may or may not be their best product, but who knows. It may be even more enjoyable than the house label EMARK tasted! I'm not sure if he's still the winemaker, but it was Tom Myers, a very respected vintne... Read More

  • Hi everybody I'm a small store owner at the edge of the rust belt, my customers rarely spend over $20 for a bottle, and I am looking to improve my selection a bit beyond what is here now.
