Welcome to Tower Rock Vineyard & Winery, known for its award-winning wines, attractive vistas and happy and relaxed atmosphere. Owned and operated by Nancy Hadler and her son Ben, Tower Rock is in its second decade of operation. Cultivated on the three-acre vineyard is the red wine grape Cynthiana, which is the official grape of the State of Missouri. Our white wine grapes are Seyval, Traminette, Vidal and Vignoles. In addition, the winery sources from neighboring vineyards choice grape varieties, and from time to time offers special fruit-based varieties – peach, apple, plum, etc. – Description from Kursulla

  • Wine has the unique ability to, at the same time, stand inside and outside of history. This past week Villa Torlonia, a museum and estate near Rome, opened to visitors the doors of its World War II-era bomb shelter. Before the underground hideout served as a refuge from possible air attacks, it served as a wine cellar for infamous dictator Benit... Read More

  • When Tony and Herta (H.B.) purchased their 30-acre Rutherford property in 1982, the vineyard grounds were wild and overgrown. Through passion and hard work, the Peju family has transformed their Rutherford Estate into Peju—a wine, architecture, and art lover’s paradise. Today, 30 years later, Peju remains a family-owned and family-run estate win... • On my recent visit to Piedmont I included five producers in the neighboring village of Barbaresco since I've often given them short shrift. Known as the Queen of Nebbiolo, in contrast to Barolo the King, Barbaresco has a reputation for being a softer, more elegantly styled example of Nebbiolo. While this is undoubtedly true, the accompanying sen... Read More

  • Not, I repeat not, a thread about whether the 2009 Bordeaux is great, but more about whether you trust the reviews. After the 2009 en primeur week, the opinion is unsurprisingly about a brilliant "vintage of the decade". I think this is the 3rd in the last 10 years n'est-ce-pas? So do we need to review how we review the en primeur? Do you trust ... Read More

  • Volpaia: it takes a village, no seriously. The Castello di Volpaia estate is one of the most remarkable wineries I have ever visited. Now, granted I was there in the off-season, but driving up the rather winding road to the hilltop enclave, it’s really not much more than a ring of buildings protecting the inner Castello, can leave you a little p...
