Torrealba

History The story of Viña Torrealba begins in 1980, when Mr. Luis V. Torrealba, its owner, purchased the first hectares of land in the Curicó Valley, described by many eonologist as "the winegrowing heart of Chile", and began planting and growing vines. For around two decades, he sold his grapes to well-known worldwide local wineries until just five years ago he decided to found his own winery and label his first wine under the brand "Torrealba". Since then, the company has grown steadily with the addition of more hectares of land and the construction of wine cellars, and wine production, bottling and storage facilities. Since its creation, Viña Torrealba has been exclusively managed by the Torrealba family. Thus, at present, the fine wines produced are under the permanent supervision of Mr. Luis V. Torrealba, who along with his oldest son, Mr. Javier L. Torrealba, participate not only in the winery management but also in the winemaking and tasting process. Mr. Javier L. Torrealba, Export Manager with an M.B.A. degree at Washington DC, is fully commited to the completion of a new goal for the twenty-first century: supply end-consumers with a high quality bottled wine, produced and bottled at Torrealba Estate Vineyards Located 204 kilometers south of Chile’s capital city, Santiago, Torrealba's 100 hectares of vineyards are nestled in one of best places for vine growing: the Curicó Valley. This valley has a priviledged mediterranean climate, with significant differences in temperature between day and night (around 20ºC) and a gentle sea breeze coming from the ocean, which helps regulate its temperature. Annual rainfall adds up to approximately 900 mm. in the autumn and winter months, followed by sunny summers. All of this, together with a clay soil, with medium fertility and good irrigation, creates a propitious environment for grape growing, allowing Viña Torrealba to produce not only full-bodied red wines with attractive aromas, but also it favors the slow maturing of white varieties, resulting in wines with great varietal intensity and aroma.
