Topel Winery and its Hidden Vineyard are perched on the east side of Duncan Peak — 1400 feet above the Sanel Valley floor and just south of Hopland in southern Mendocino County. It is here, above the fog line, that owners Mark and Donnis Topel have planted Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Syrah on the steep, rocky slopes. Adhering to organic and biodynamic agriculture practices, the Topels tend the vines year-round, coaxing each to produce moderate grape yields with intense flavors. – Description from milana

  • Topel Chardonnay Classique Mendocino 2010

Aromatically tight and narrow with a decidedly lemon oil nose that has a slightly floral almost lemon verbena top note. Tense in the mouth with almost a little Chablis character with a touch of stones on the midpalate contrasted against the core of fresh pineapple and lime fruit. Theres a touch of autolytic character on the back end followed by ... Read More

  • Topel Chardonnay Reserve Classique Mendocino 2009

Bright and high toned on the nose with a very fine overlay of oak, a hint of green tea and layers of marzipan, dried orange peel and sweet apple fruit. Bright acids appear on entry followed by a little buttered toast with green apple fruit that gains hints of apple butter, toasted hazelnut and lemon curd on the midpalate. This offers up a lovely... • Zinfandel, it’s no secret that I’ve carried on a long and intimate relationship with you. There is so much you have to offer. Sometimes you're a bit rough and tumble, edgy, even dangerous, while other times you’re coy or playful. But you’re always there for me, with joyous fruit, classic bramble notes and structure, allowing for early consumptio... Read More

  • Topel Zinfandel Monhoff Vineyard Diamond Mountain 2009

Perfumed briarwood and some super perfumed Zin berry fruit full of wild blackberry and wild cherry fruit greet the nose with a light oak underlay. Round, soft and mouth-filling with nice juicy fruit that shows lots of cherry character in an easy going way with nice inner mouth perfumes. This is pretty restrained, well integrated but sweet-fruite... Read More

  • Topel Cabernet Sauvignon Mendocino County Estate Reserve 2006

Lightly spicy and dark on the nose with an earthy, carob base and some blackberry top notes. This is bright on entry with some pronounced acidity that leads the way for some dusty tannins and a mouth feel that is decidedly not open and transparent. Rather medium bodied with lovely freshness an nuance to the fruit. there's some nice red currant a... Read More

  • Topel Pinot Noir Monterey Reserve 2009

This is a touch light on the nose but shows some fleshy fruit, sweet earth, perhaps a touch of licorice and some vague green tea/herb notes. Gains some nice cranberry and raspberry notes with air. This is light fresh and zippy with really good tension in the mouth and fine if a touch simple, red fruit. I really like the texture here though, it's... Read More
