Tignanello is the “Super Tuscan” label produced by celebrated Italian wine producer Antinori. The Antinori family has produced wine in Tuscany for well over 600 years, since Giovanni di Piero Antinori joined the Arte Fiorentina dei Vinattieri in 1385. The winery has managed to stay in the family over the centuries, now under the direction of Marchese Piero Antinori, with help from his daughters Albiera, Allegra and Alessia.

Tignanello has been produced since the early 1970s in the vineyard of the same name, and is credited with being among the very first Super Tuscans. It is a blend of primarily Sangiovese with smaller percentages of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. This makes it closer to a traditional Tuscan wine, the inverse of most Super Tuscans which balance more heavily on the Bordeaux grapes. It was one of the first wines in the region to be aged in small oak barrels to impart richer flavors.

  • Antinori Tignanello 2004

    Snoothrank:

Lots of oak and cedar in nose, with a bit of Sangiovese in background. Flavors very coarse, and finish sharp. Antinori started with good grapes and ruined it with too much oak. Bad wine making! International style at its worst. Read More
