  • RBA-Sounds like a busy but fun weekend. Enjoy! We are boring one dimensional red wine drinkers. We also have the sushi with spicy mayo so that with the Zin was fantastic. Probably could have had a glass of a white with the claws.  Read More

The Adelaide was my favorvite of the two while my wife prefer the St. Francis because it was a little dryer.Adelaida-Beautiful and dark purple in the glass, intense and powerful nose, lots of black and blue fruit, smooth and ... • Long Shadows seems like a guest chef program, but in wine.  In college, our dining program would bring in chefs from around the US about four times a year under the "Cross Country Gourmet" rubric.  There was a lottery type system with a limited number of seats, and someone would come from a resto and we'd get a decent meal on our own turf.  LS g... • Enkidu Bedrock Vineyard Barbera 2013

Beautiful red plum color in the glass. Something of a musky nose. On the tongue, this is an absolute knock-off of so many Italian red wines that I have enjoyed over the years. Medium bodied. Fresh, bright red fruit, but the dominant characteristic is tartness. Now, Im sure that somebody will insist that if one dimension dominates, then the ... Read More

  • Oh, tons of it goes into bulk whites.  But, yeah, some is going into brandy and sparkling.  Woodenhead makes one openly.  Sorry that's the K&L site, but I also found it on Woodenhead's site--for some reason that link doesn't want to be copied.  Read More

  • This is terrific info, guys.  Thank you, very much.A few years ago I posted a thread asking about Colombard in California.  Snooth used to e-mail to me a "Wine Tip of the Day," and one arrived stating that Colombard was the 3rd most grown (I really don't know if they were measuring tons or acres) wine grape in California.  My question was, basic... • Colombard and Ugni Blanc are two of the three grapes that are required to make up 90% of anything called Cognac.  Brandy can be almost anything, including non-grape sources, but what you would think of as Brandy--and SA is a big producer of brandy made from grapes--uses Colombard among other grapes.  If you look at the original post and its phot... • Colombard is commonly used in Armagnac and Cognac. By regulation for it to qualify as a Cru, Cognac needs to be at least 90% from Ugni Blanc, Colombard and Folle Blanche. The wine used in the distilling process is often described as pretty much crap on its own. Doesn't bode well for the bottle in the OP for this thread!Requirements aren't as str... Read More
