The Hess Collection was founded by Swiss entrepreneur Donald Hess, who first purchased vineyards on Mount Veeder in 1978. The winery is best known for its flagship Mount Veeder Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay wines, and single vineyard designates from our estate vineyards in Napa Valley. A leader in sustainable and organic practices, The Hess Collection adheres to founder Donald Hess’ philosophy; “Nurture the land; return what you take.” Located in the historic stone winery originally constructed in 1903 by Colonel Theodore Gier, the winery first opened to the public in 1989. It since has earned international recognition for its wine, culinary and visitor programs, and provides free public access to Donald Hess’ extensive private Contemporary Art Museum.

  • Petite Sirah has the stuffing to hold up to extended oak aging. It can also be made in a lighter, fruit-forward, early drinking style. • Hess Sra Select Mendocino Usa California 2007

The wine itself has some deep ruby color, with only mild opacity toward the center. The nose is quite nice, with a good bit of leather, tobacco and spice surrounding a rich, jammy core of black fruit. The taste belies the fruit in the nose, with only mild hints of ripe cherry and cassis up front, which transitions easily into some lovely spice... Read More

  • The Hess Collection Chardonnay Napa Valley 2010

A 2010 Chardonnay from Napa Valley, California. Yellow straw in color. Fruits hints of lemons, peaches and tangerine with a long finish on the palette and crisp acidity. The time for this wine is now until 2015. Best served chilled to 50 degrees, and served with cold pasta salad and seared scallops. Read More
