Quality winegrowing in America was in its infancy in the 1970’s. The Spurrier tasting in Paris in 1976 gave the first international credibility to California Cabernet and Chardonnay. Three years later, again in Paris, and the following year in Beaune, The Eyrie Vineyards 1975 Pinot noir brought international attention to Oregon, a wine region unfamiliar to almost anyone except a handful of hardy pioneers. With these two tastings, Oregon won its first recognition as the New World home for Pinot noir. – Description from JelaDragoljevic

  • Eyrie Vineyards Dundee Hills Pinot Gris 2012

    Snoothrank:

Just a fantastic Willamette pinot gris! First hint is of apricot which is quickly followed by not so ripe peach. Nice acidity carries some lemon lime to the mid and back of the tongue. Fairly complex for a pinot gris, one of the all time QPR leaders. Read More

Soil driven on the nose with a minty herbal edge to the unripe honeydew, fennel, and dried citrus peel aromas. tense and taut on entry with terrific acidity unfurling on the palate along with layered flavors of dusty earth, unripe pear and green apple flavors. Slightly cloudy pink color. Spice, earth and game, anise on nose. Black currant, plum and hints of banana. Occassional whiffs of neoprene. Deeper and a bit more red wine like than some roses. Interesting Read More
