Giulio Caporali, Valdipiatta’s owner and founder, purchased the estate in the late 1980s to pursue his dream of creating a great wine. With a strong, innovative approach and profound respect for the land, Giulio has been able to elevate Valdipiatta to one of the top producers in the Vino Nobile di Montepulciano appellation. “It is my Shangri-La”, is how Giulio describes Valdipiatta. In 2002, he turned over management of the estate and winery to his daughter Miriam. Today, he enjoys living at Valdipiatta, where he has found an ideal environment to conduct research and pursue his interests in history and literature. A passionate scholar, Giulio translated from Latin, the charter of the town Montepulciano, a manuscript fro 1337 AD. Most recently, he published an essay on the Etruscan origins of the name of Montepulciano. Miriam Caporali is Valdipiatta’s owner and general manager. • Tenuta Valdipiatta is a property full of surprises, the first of which is the road one takes to get there. Well, let me clarify that: If, like me, you assume you know where you are and where you’re going, you might end up on a distinctly rough road that leads, via the vineyard roads, right to the Tenuta. Now, this road -- the wrong road -- i... Read More

  • Valdipiatta Vino Nobile 2006

    Snoothrank:

Theres a touch of wood on the nose but not enough to get in the way of the gently funky core of smoky, sottobosco toned fruit with hints of sea air and barnyard all growing in the glass. On the mouth this is bursting with fresh fruit, all plums and bilberries and cherries in a pure, velvety style that shows great balance. Super seamless all thro... Read More

  • Valdipiatta Rosso di Motepulciano 2007

    Snoothrank:

Rich in the mouth and somewhat soft at first, this really comes alive with lovely fruit full of mineral, wild berry, and savory dried game tones. The finish is long and shows great cut with a ...
