Tensley Wines is a family owned and operated winery focusing on vineyard designated Syrah within Santa Barbara County. Established in 1998, the first release of Tensley totaled just 100 cases. In 2006, our production reached 3,300 cases and included seven single-vineyard Syrahs, the most in Santa Barbara County. Though we've grown in size, our philosophy has never changed - source the best fruit possible and let the vineyard speak for itself. For tasting and wine purchases, please call, order online, or stop by our tasting room. The Tensley Tasting Room is located in the scenic town of Los Olivos in the heart of Santa Barbara County wine country. In the same tasting room is Carina Cellars Wines, these Rhone style wines are also produced by Joey with the same degree of quality he gives to his own label. Truly a family owned and operated winery, you will likely find either Joey or Jennifer Tensley working behind the tasting bar on any given weekend. We look forward to seeing you soon.

  • Tensley Los Padres Syrah Central Coast 2013

Really well done for the price point. The fact that after it is shifted to stainless after 3 months allows for the grape to shine yet allows for the oak to slightly influence the gamey, blueberry features with pepper and spice. 89 points - Drink now - Paul Read More

  • Jacob's Creek Reserve Shiraz Barossa 2012

Whew - did the pepper ever come out as this sat. Kinda took over. The fruit was typical of JCRS, as was the coffee, cocao and that Barossa dirt - the extent of the spice would has handled any Spnish, Mexican, burger or pizza food offerings out there. Just a little less and this would have been a 91. Drink now - Paul 90 points Read More

  • Tensleysyrah Santa Barbara County 2012

Really a complex wine - rustic and gamy, blueberries, red plum, chocolate and...wait for it...a splash of Tuscany citrus that was damned amazing. This all carried through to the palate in spades and followed for a lengthy aftertaste. Stunning - drink or hold - Paul.91 points Read More

  • Here's the funny thing:  For just a minute, Napa Ridge Cab was made from grapes from Napa Valley.  So that added to the confusion.  Franzia sometimes bought up labels that had some history or a reputation.  (His company is called Bronco, because the Franzia name was bought by Coca Cola and sold to The Wine Group.  So there's lots of history and ... • Ok, new year and time for a new topic of discussion.  Just yesterday I opened this Pinot Noir from California that initially sounded promising.  First  - it was given to Sandra as a retirement gift so it was free.  Second - a Pinot Noir bottled in St. Helena CA, so it has to be decent, right? and Third - a nice looking label.  Well, this 2014 Me... • Qupe has always impressed me with their reasonable pricing.  Lately I've just found the wines a little lackluster.  Maybe I've just gotten spoiled by those Sonoma Syrahs that OT (mostly) turns us onto.  Still, they never make bad wine. I bought some Tensley a couple years ago from WineAccess after all the RP hype.  It was a huge disappointment--... • Had a great first full day here in south central California. Started off with a very good breakfast at the ForFriends B&B in Santa Ynez. Too early for any of the tasting rooms to be open so we headed down to Jalama beach for some salt air and scenery. Beautiful beach with some interesting campsites and about a half dozen surfers enjoying some mo... Read More

  • NG stole my reco for Lafond.  I've mentioned elsewhere that I like their Syrah (or maybe that was just over a glass with GdP, my memory is unreliable on these things lately).  About two weeks ago, a co-worker who felt she owed me a favor was on vacation in SB and went to the tasting room right there in downtown SB and brought back a bottle of th... • There's also Covenant and a bunch of others.  Many of them are, more or less, pretty good.  None of them that I have had has ever been better than pretty good.  All of them have cost much more than they should have for the source of the fruit and for the quality of the wine.  Why is that the case?  It's not that the wine has to be processed in a... • We just joined their wine club and got their anniversary 'noir' syrah which has very good reviews for past vintage. They have wonderful syrahs that are well balanced and very enjoyable. They have the OGT syrah and BMT syrah/grenache blends in magnums for their wine club so I cannot wait to open one for a syrah party!
