Summers Winery

Jim Summers purchased a 28-acre vineyard in Knights Valley in 1987. At that time it was mostly Merlot grapes with some Muscat Canelli. The first production of Summers Ranch Merlot was the 1992 vintage, and we increased the yield to reach a maximum of 2000 cases. In 1996 we expanded our vineyard holdings to include 25 acres at the corner of Highway 128 and Tubbs Lane. This Napa Valley property carries the name Summers Estate Wines, with the vineyard designation of Villa Andriana Vineyard, named after our daughter. The property has been completely transformed to recognize its full potential. With a winery/tasting room, entertainment center, bocce ball court, picnic area and 22+ acres of vines (Zinfandel, Charbono, and Cabernet Sauvignon) we think it a perfect balance of pleasure and productivity. Creating red-wine from grapes grown on small acreages in both Napa Valley and Knights Valley is the passion of Beth and Jim Summers. The signature, "unique" wine offered by Summers is Charbono. • Summers Winery Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley Reserve 2012

    Snoothrank:

Classic big and powerful red fruit aromas of raspberry and cherry with good age indicators like well tanned leather and tobacco. Similarly structured on the palate, with the addition of cherry cola and candied sugar dates, clay, eucalyptus and licorice. This powerful and delicious wine can easily age for several years. 90pts Read More

  • Summers Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley Andrianna's Cuvee 2012

    Snoothrank:

Dusty and hot red fruit aromas with tea leaf, black cherry and violets. Tart acidity, black cherry and chocolate flavors are still a little restrained by youth but will open up considerably in the coming years. Already the wine has excellent structure and good ripe fruit flavors, loads of lively acidity and good power. Oaky vanilla, smoke and le... Read More

  • Summers Cabernet Sauvignon Calistoga 2011

    Snoothrank:

Light red fruit aromas of cherry and raspberry. Flavors are bold and fresh, with tart acidity bracing the bright cherry flavors, light brown sugar, black licorice and a hint of cocoa powder. Tannins are noticeable but not gripping - a fine Cabernet that isn't overpowering. 90pts Read More

  • The Nordic North is seeing palates across the country warming to wine. According to a report released by Euromonitor International earlier this year, Sweden saw a two percent increase in wine sales in 2013. Increasing sales of bag-in-box wines and a growing wine culture are two factors in the increase, the report said. The country's wine drinker... Read More

  • It’s the heart of winter here in the northern hemisphere, a time when our attentions turn to robust red wines. One wine in particular seems to be relegated to these cold months, and that is a bit of a shame. I’m talking about the often misunderstood Amarone. A powerful wine, one with relatively high alcohol and rich flavors, but one that often i... Read More

  • Summers Petite Sirah 2009

    Snoothrank:

Dark and earthy on the nose with aromas of macerating flowers and damp tobacco layered over a base of black cherry and blackberry fruit framed with some well judged vanilla and wood spice. Smooth, polished and yet not detailess in the mouth with lovely bright yet integrated acids and soft, supple yet obvious tannins. theres a streak of dark choc... Read More

  • Summers Merlot Reserve Summers Ranch 2010

    Snoothrank:

Fairly floral on the nose with lots of perfumed oak aromas framing a core of bright, spicy blackberry and lingonberry fruit. This really flows across the palate with an excellent blend of richness of fruit and firmness of structure. The acids are a touch low, lending this additional weight in the mouth but the tannins, copious as they may be, ar... Read More
