The vineyards at the Stolpman estate enjoy the warm days and cool nights of Ballard Canyon, which lies 25 miles from the Pacific Ocean in Santa Barbara County, on California’s Central Coast. The combination of climate, southern exposure, and limestone soils makes for a unique terroir suited to growing Syrah, Sangiovese, and Roussanne. The first vines were planted at Stolpman in 1992 by Coastal Vineyard Care Associates, who continue to farm and develop the 220-acre estate. We are constantly improving our vineyards according to the latest information available about viticultural techniques, technology, vine material and our specific terroir. – Description from iskicm

  • Well this was an unusual evening, a Sangiovese tasting with most of the wines from California! As unusual as it may have been the results speak for themselves. Plenty of impressive wines and three standouts. I'll go into more detail in the corresponding blog post and well follow this set of wines up with more Sangiovese next week but suffice it ... • Stolpman Sangiovese Santa Ynez Valley Estate Grown 2005

    Snoothrank:

Very ripe herbal tones, integrated oak, cocao, vanilla, lots of good wood notes makes this quite spicy if a touch hot. Fresh fruit is in there, slightly macerated and sweet smelling with a hint of amaretto lurking. Big acid right up front then a fairly plush and well integrated mid-palate with herbal and citrus notes adding complexity to the ra... Read More

  • Sangiovese is one of my favorite grapes. A very food friendly profile that combines high acid, small but grippy tannins and a touch of astringency makes for wine that are perfect for pairing at the table. Brunello, Chianti, Vino Nobile, Morellino, ton's of Rossos and varietal wines from the west coast will make this a great GTi.I'll kick off the... Read More

Very fine, almost citrussy with wiry green herbal notes, salted plum, integrated wood tones, floral notes, wiry wild berry fruits a touch of candied watermelon peel and a hint of bell pepper. • Well I have plans to include several Syrahs in this thread over the next 2 weeks but let me begin with one of my favorite Syrah producers.
