The vineyards at the Stolpman estate enjoy the warm days and cool nights of Ballard Canyon, which lies 25 miles from the Pacific Ocean in Santa Barbara County, on California’s Central Coast. The combination of climate, southern exposure, and limestone soils makes for a unique terroir suited to growing Syrah, Sangiovese, and Roussanne. The first vines were planted at Stolpman in 1992 by Coastal Vineyard Care Associates, who continue to farm and develop the 220-acre estate. We are constantly improving our vineyards according to the latest information available about viticultural techniques, technology, vine material and our specific terroir. – Description from iskicm

  • I love N. Rhone Syrah.  It's my favorite red wine in France.  But the acreage of the region is so small and the area that provide its best wines even smaller, that prices have hit the roof.  Sure, there are a few St. Josephs and Crozes-Hermitages that come in around $25, but those are either made for earlier drinking and a lot less thrilling wit... • Yup, it was Mauritson, Fox.  Oh boy, fun tonight.  Staying on the Syrah topic, today's delivery included the '12 Madrone Spring, but I also picked the '12 Madrone Spring PS which I am pretty excited to try.On the Central Coast thing, I might fight you a bit on that.  I have never tried a Stolpman.  So, I really don't have a vote, there, but I do... • Hi all!Hoping to wade into interesting wine talk (and food talk).  Me, I've been seriously enjoying and exploring wine for just over 20 years. On the red side, right now I'm partial to wines from Spain and the Rhone valley, but other loves are Oregon pinots, really good Italian wines (yes, it's endless, but that's the fun), and wanting to try mu... • Well known producer with broad distribution.  Definitely one of the bigger names in Rhone grapes on the Central Coast, along with Stolpman, Qupe, Tablas Creek, some others that escape me.  I bought and enjoyed a rose of theirs some years ago.  I had the blend--probably the same one you bought--and have no memory of it.  Guessing it was inoffensi... Love the wines but the space is getting a little tight...)So it seemed lik... Read More

  • Well, DJ, I like Ojai Vineyard because I like their wines.  Their tasting room is in the town of Ojai south of Santa Barbara.  It is pretty plain jane, although, Ojai is a nice little town.  If you can procure Ojai Vineyards wherever you live, I don't see any particular reason for you to visit the tasting room.  There are no other wineries in th...
