After working as a commercial artist, now Winemaker, Tim Stevens found his passion through a meandering path of twists and turns. While returning to school to study English Literature, Tim worked at a fine dining restaurant where his love for food and wine flourished. After becoming more and more immersed in wine, he found himself involved in a tasting group where he met Matt Laso of Matthews Cellars. In 1998 Matthews Cellars hired Tim as an Assistant Winemaker, where he worked for two years. Then in 2000, an opportunity presented itself to work with another friend, Scott Greer of Sheridan Vineyard as a Winemaker Consultant along with Chris Camarda from Andrew Will Winery. The year 2002 brought the birth of Stevens Winery when Tim along with his wife Paige, decided to jump feet first(pardon the pun) into a project of their own. Like other boutique wineries, their focus is to create a small lots of ultra-premium table wines from grapes grown by growers who have the same passion and desire to produce fruit Read more »

  • Stevens Syrah Yakima Valley Black Tongue 2008

    Snoothrank:

Hope you like massive structure (I do) because this wine has it! The wine has plenty of deep, rich, dark fruit but this wine is really about the tar, smoke, licorice and pepper. Those that love very fruity Syrahs should stay away, this is quite dry. Read More

  • I was going to put this in the Whatcha Drinking Tonight thread. But since there was some Syrah talk going on I thought I'd start a new thread on Cool Climate Syrah.Tonight I'm visiting a wine I haven't had in since May and wanted to see how it is progressing. It comes from high up atop the Yorkville Highlands in the Anderson Valley  which is in ... Read More

  • Tyrrell's Wines Single Vineyard Stevens Hunter Shiraz 2009

    Snoothrank:

These Hunter Valley wines (which I hope to sample in visiting friends in the region) are softer and less "in your face" than South Australian examples of this grape variety. This strikes me as a bit odd given the latitude difference, but here you go! In any event, this fine wine has good varietal correctness on the nose (those cherry cola notes... Read More

  • Stevens 424 Yakima Valley 2008

    Snoothrank:

Spicier than the '07, this wine continues to way over-deliver for the money. As always the 424 is dense, concentrated and well balanced with ripe black fruits, heavy spice and pepper notes and subtle earth. Drinking well now and should age well for 10 years or more. Read More

  • Stevens Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley Xy Reserve 2008

    Snoothrank:

If you're a Napa Cab lover and want to venture into Washington this is the ... ... the ... Pritchard Hill and Stevens kept up nicely (at less than half the price I remind you). This is a big, lush, and rich wine. Big blackberry and toasty vanilla notes which lead into asian spices and a touch of smoke. Solid, my only critique is it lacks t... Read More
